I don't hate the truth! The truth about what exactly?

2007-09-11 14:15:31 · answer #1 · answered by I, Sapient 7 · 0 1

People don't like hearing the truth because it means they have to make a decision about the truth. For example, you find out that you significant other is cheating on you, do you accept this fact and then decide whether to remain with them or not or avoid the truth and so you don't have to make a decision.

Its better to accept the truth and deal with the consequences then to keep lying to yourself and getting hurt over and over again.

The truth isn't always pretty.......at least that is what I say.Can any of of handle the truth all the time....I doubt it.Is the truth always good... it depends. What is your motivation for telling the truth. Do you tell the truth to give constructive input or do you tell the truth to hurt.I've always told my daughters that it isn't the truth but their perception of the truth .Truth is not only about what we say but the words we use to tell it..I hope this helps.Take care.

I don't think anyone hates the truth, I think when told the truth, they take it as a personal criticism of themselves, or their thinking or their ideas. They react badly.

Because more often than not, they already know what the truth is, but it contradicts what they want to do or think, and having someone reiterate what they already know makes it that much harder for them to go ahead to do or say what they want to do, regardless of knowing better. WOW, did that sentence actually make sense. I don't know if it did or not, but people would rather do the opposite of what they know to be true, and don't like being called on it I believe.

Hi! Amanda B,

To answer your Q, I would have to say, people hate the truth because, as Jeremiah 17:9 says,
“ The heart is deceitful above all things,And desperately wicked; Who can know it?

We don't even realize how dark our own hearts are...It is only by the grace of God, through faith & the holy spirit enlightening our souls with God's word, that we are able to become open to the truth...We in our fallen state, resist the truth because our hearts are hardened by our sinfulness...We hide & try covering our sins by doing evil deeds in the dark, thinking God will not see.

But again God's word says, Romans 1:18
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,

2 Thessalonians 2:10
and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

2 Thessalonians 2:12
that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

1 John 1:8
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

John 1:17
For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

1 John 2:4
He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

John 8:32
And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

When we pray, we must ask God to give us understanding of His ways, and to bring light & truth into our hearts...

God Bless!
