because there is nothing to apologize for. slavery has been the way of life in every country ever since the beginning of mankind. it was america and england who first had the idea that maybe slavery wasn't the greatest system. all the negroes in america who want an apology can move back to africa if they don't like it here. unfortunately there won't be any takers

At the time of slavery, it had been an acceptable institution all over the world for millennia. Today, who will the U.S. apologize to? All the slaves are dead. Laws abolishing slavery have recognized that it happened and isn't permitted anymore.

Our history books recount a massive war fought over the abolition of slavery. In a war that had nearly 4 million combat fighters, almost 1 million died, or 25%.

Against a population at that time of 34 million, that was a pretty big commitment. What is a verbal apology to no one in particular when compared to those numbers?

Slavery was never an official policy of the United States government. Rather, individual states made the decision to allow, or not allow slavery. As time passed this, combined with other issues led to deep tensions between the states which culminated in the Civil War. During the war, slavery was abolished in all of the states then in rebellion. Shortly after the war ended, slavery was abolished completely. THAT was the work of the federal government.

So who's your owner? I didn't realize slavery still existed in the US today... If your taking about slavery back in the1800's why should anyone apologize for that none of us were alive and who would they apologize to because you weren't around. I am sick of people thinking that we owe them something because of stuff that happened way back then. By the way white people were slaves first did you know that study up on your history you don't hear white people going around saying anyone owes them an apology for that do you? By the way I don't need any smart remarks because you only get mad cause I am telling the truth!

Because the people who it affected are not influencial socio-economically, trust me if blacks as influencial as say Jews (im Jewish) an apology would have been given a long time ago......

As for America never legally legitimised slavery please, what the hell were bounty hunters, other than the legalised right to reclaim your human property for example. Also the argument that if wasnt deemed morally wrong at the time is a POOR excuse. The Holocaust was deemed morally right at the time in Germany, did that make it ok? NO. Therefore we should apologise to a people who are still very much marginalised even today.......

Not only did slavery exist before my time,my ancestors risked life and limb by helping to run the underground railroad, and hiding slaves in their houses to help them get to the North. So maybe the NAACP should thank me for what my ancestors did to help slaves escape.I'm of Scottish descent. You ever hear of the Highland Clearances? Scott's were sold as slaves in North America also.Do hear me calling for an apology from England? Exactly. It happened before our time and for the fact that it is in the history books means that the government is not denying it.Just move on and get over it.

Why hasn't America apologized for slavery?
when thousands and thousands of american people died in the civil war
for the blacks freedom, that should have been enough. they inherited the entire country the same as all other people who migrated, immigrated, were forcefully immigrated, or were asylum-seekers escaping from their old lives.
america recognized that civil rights were needed to more fully allow for the black community to assimilate into society, they changed the laws, added more freedoms, and then moved-on.

today, Kye said, is that the level of suburban segregation for most minority groups had stopped increasing and began instead to decrease from 1990 to 2010 -- except for African American neighborhoods.
Kye said black ethnoburbs were the only communities to continue showing increases in segregation during that same time period.
"This is alarming because although black-white segregation has generally declined over the past 30 to 40 years, blacks still remain the most highly segregated minority group in the U.S. today,"

the major black-white problem today, is the black-community is offering only "false-integration" in exchange for true-integration. they do not allow the white community to integrate into the black community, into black businesses, nor are white present and represented in media projects like black t.v. and movies. the blacks, themselves, have opted for a "colored-only" approach to social life, and without apology, i think it is because of their bigotry and hatred. they have accomplished more self-segregation through "false-integration", then hate groups like the KKK or the white nationalists could ever have achieved.
the social-dysphagia they create is caused by themselves.

None is required. The apology was made in blood. See Arlington Cemetary for clarification.

Thousands of Americans gave their lives to end it. Seems like that is apology enough.

Should the descendants of Hebrew slaves demand an apology from modern Egyptians? Or is there some point at which people should let it go and move on. All people have had their turn being the victim. Seeing oneself as a victim keeps them in slavery.
