That's the wrong question.

Quarterbacks are the most criticized player on any NFL team (or college team, or high school team . . . .), and race doesn't have anything to do with that. The criticism is just part of the job.

They say that the most popular player on the NFL team is the backup quarterback --- look at the Cleveland Browns situation with Frye. One bad game and GONE! Demoted and traded.

Also, I find that this whining denigrates the legacy of Doug Williams, who was an African-American, and a quarterback, when he personally thrashed the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXII. He probably got criticized from time to time on his way to that historic event, but I remember him enduring and overcoming the *very real* racial barriers with dignity.

McNabb could learn a thing or two from Doug.

Yes, African-American Quarterbacks will always be criticized more because the spotlight is on them more. There's only two franchise quarterbacks that are black. Donovan McNabb, and Vince Young(Magic Johnson). Vince Young fits the typical black quarterback stigma; Fast with strong arm but not accurate. The only thing is that the other stigma is black quarterbacks arent smart and arent good leaders. Well Vince Young has grown into the leader of the Tennessee Titans and is smart enough to win with inferior talent. Donovan McNabb gets blamed for losing games that he didnt lose. Take week 1 for example. He did everything in his power to win except actually catch passes that he threw to his recievers(that they dropped) and field punts(that were muffed). But still in both cases it's almost a situation where you cant really do enough to just be judged as a good quarterback, and not a novel black quarterback. I'm sorry I've been pissed about this since Randall played for the Eagles.

Yes they do, but they also get hyped a lot more now dont they. All we ever heard about Vick was how great he was, and as it turns out he wasnt so great either on or off the field. Of all the super hyped black Qbs what have any of them ever done, besides make nike commercials . Doug Williams was the last black QB worth a darn, got his super bowl ring. But he was more of a passer that sometimes ran, instead of all these new black QBs that keep getting forced down our throats who want to run first and pass second. But hey they do sell lots of jerseys, and money is the name of the game.

It's the other way around..except for McNabb (consider the ethnicity of the host and interviewee you reference above) who is smarting because Rush Limbaugh's comments a couple of years ago were taken out of context...the ultra politically correct media is very careful to treat black QB's with kid gloves and rarely criticize them. Ineffective white QB's like Grossman, etc. are thrown under the bus but ineffective black QB's like Jason Campbell will still be touted as "developing" even after 6 years of inefficiency.
