"I was in math class when I had learned that a plane had just flown into the World Trade Center.

For the first time that day (possibly that week) I felt awake, and alive.

Sadly, I think my reaction was that of excitement. I appreciated this break from the average, mundane, numb school day.

I could lie to myself and say it wasn't so. But it was.

Am I ashamed? Yes."

I just read this on www.vinecrawler.com and it made me so sad.

What do you guys think? Did you share a similar experience?

I feel so terribly for those who lost lives, or loved ones on that day, however I have to say I agree with this person.
But I see it in a bit of a different light - - such as most Americans were very set in their ways, feeling overly secure about themselves, weren't proud of their country near as much as they should be, and there was a strong presense of racism and hatred.
After September 11th shook them up, they were even more patriotic, strong, and kind than ever. People came together.

As sad as it is, tragedies are what bring countries and people together, strengthen them, and remind them of what they stand for.

I'm fine with what the person wrote. The West has great difficulty with the concept of boredom. So many are so bored, even bored with life, looking for anything to add spice, variety or excitement to their boring and dreary day.

The feeling of excitement is understandable. It was a new event for us all.The fact that you felt sadness for loss of so many is all that matters. You have nothing to be ashamed of.It was a natural reaction.
