P.S. I forgot to say I don't have the cd with the original drivers anymore. I lost them during a move.

Immediately after installing the OS, install the chipset driver and drivers of all onboard devices. Then install the drivers of devices that you put on the PCI slots and the graphics card driver. Then install your favorite softwares. Download the chipset driver from the motherboard maker's site.

It depends on if you want your computer to perform at the best capability it can. The latest drivers are more optimized that the original drivers. New drivers also repair bugs that older drivers may have. Seems like people who have the most problems with their computers are those who don't want to be bothered with updating drivers and doing windows updates. I always have the latest drivers burned onto a CD before I even format the drive but I want to get the best bang for my buck.

Any drivers for any piece of software is ALWAYS available on the Internet you just have to google for it..you don't need your driver CD (which is probably out of date anyway).

If you install the latest drivers there will obviously be improvements, or else they wouldn't bother releasing a new version. This doesn't necessarily mean you'll see a change..a lot of the changes are usually under-the-hood and most people won't notice.

Here's software to backup your drivers do it before you format. That way you aren't stuck if you can't find all the drivers on the Internet right away

Yes. The drivers could have been updated to resolve any previous conflict, prevent blue screen of death, to run faster, etc.

Remember, XP came out in 2002., you may have hardware thay were made later. XP may not have the drivers for some of these.
