Republicans:
Flat taxes that benefit the wealthy
Family Values
Christian laws and morals
Against gays (marriage and rights)
Welfare/Medicaid/Medicare cuts and/or abolition
Big Business
Right to bear arms/NRA
Against sex education/health class
Against illegal immigration
Against a Woman's right to choose
Against PC and affirmative action
(generally) for the war
Democrats:
Money for small businesses
Political correct-ness/affirmative action
Not mixing Church and state
For the right of gays
For Welfare, Medicaid, Medicare (for the poor, old or diabled)
Arts programs in schools (music, art, etc.) as well as sex education
Against illegal immigration
For the environment and animals
(generally) against the war
To me, both haver their flaws. I hate with a passion the coldhearted approach Republicans have to the poor and suffering. I hate the Democrats support of whiny PC terms and actions that take our culture away. They both have their merits...I like the way Republicans stand up for our U.S. culture, and I like the way Democrats pay attention to our environment and don't presume to tell us what our morals "should" be.
That's why I am an Independent. Both parties are corrupt at their hearts, and neither can be trusted. I like the Democrats a little more because I believe they are a little less prejuidiced and cold hearted, but generally, both of them make me ill.
And the point is? Think for YOURSELF. Don't let some political party tell you how to think, feel, and be.
Good luck :)

Very little.
Imagine the entire political spectrum as a 'ratings' system. The most extreme on one end would be communism or socialism. We will call this a '1'. On the other end , you have Facism, or nationalism. We will call this a '10'.
Conservative Republicans would rate about a '5.5' on this scale. Liberal Democrats would rate about a '4.5' on this scale. It's sad that Americans have narrowed thier political system down to two parties that are nearly identical, and yet fight tooth and nail about small differences in ideology.

The democrats want a big government to control how you live, and to make sure no one gets too rich.
The republicans want a small government to control how you live, and don't realize (or won't admit) that it takes a big government to accomplish that.
The democrats think you believe them when they say they want everyone to be free (and maybe you do).
The republicans believe it when they say they want everyone to be free.
Why settle for either when the real thing is available?

The republicans think that they are right, and should run the world . . . and the democrats think that they are right, and should run the world.
Essentially:
Republicans: Favor business, smaller government.
Democrats: Favor families, extend government programs.

Democrats believe in socialism. Republicans believe in democracy.
Democrats believe in slaughter children in the womb. Republicans believe ALL children are special and deserve to live.
Democrats want to run away from Iraq and live millions to be killed in a mass genocide like when the USA ran from Vietnam. Republicans believe we need to try everything we can to protect the people in Iraq from genocide.

Republicans believe each person is responsible for themselves and what they do.
Democrats believe nobody is ever responsible for themselves and their actions.
Republicans believe people should be the chance to get rich if they work hard and are good at what they do.
Democrats believe everybody should be equally poor, regardless how hard they work or how good they are at what they do.
