Yeah, it is confusing. The problem is that people are LAZY, and they need to classify and label things. If you must order politics, there is a two dimensional axis which has left-right for economic control, and up-down for social control. In my opinion, it still doesn't work quite right.
In the two dimensional graph, if you consider American democrats West and Republicans East, then combining the economic restrictions of the Ds with the social restriction of the Rs would lead to a philosphy called Statism, which would be South. Then, the economic freedom of Rs plus social freedom of Ds would be North, which is Libertarianism.
Fascism is generally statism+racism/nationalism.
"communism", which was really authoritarian socialism, is just flat out statism.
Both crush individualism in the name of the State, and both would suck to live in. Smash the State!

Fascism - A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.
Communism - A theoretical economic system characterized by the collective ownership of property and by the organization of labor for the common advantage of all members.
Fascism is a form of government, Communism is an economic system. A truly Communist society is virtually impossible to achieve because there will always be an element of that society that wants more than their share or feel that they should be in control. That is why communism, in practice, has resulted authoritarian governments which have much in common with a fascist state.

Communism in it's essence is in no way Facist.
It is the Stalinists and the Maoists that create a system of authoritarian rule.
And in a true communist state, the government is the people, therefore saying that the government owns everything is saying that the people own everything.
Also, the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei were not socialist in economic policy. What the moron above me fails to grasp is that nazi ideology stressed the racial purity of the German people and persecuted those it perceived either as enemies or Lebensunwertes Leben, that is "life unworthy of life". (This included Jews, Roma, Slavs and homosexuals, along with Jehovah's Witnesses, the mentally and/or physically disabled, socialists, and communists.)

Fascism is an economic system as is communism. They are not political systems. Democracy is a political system. Totalitarianism is political system. In theory there could be a democratic communist state (Marx) but there never has been one. There has been totalitarianism many places, Nazi Germany, Soviet Union, Japan 31 to 45, Italy 1923 to 1943 and other smaller and less powerful states. Socialism has also existed in some places. The Swedes, for instance, picked a socialist system in a democratic fashion. Pol Sci 101

No just about all communist systems end up like you say, power in the hands of the few at the expense of the many. New Zea land probably is the best socialist system in the world.

To the average person who works for a living, there's only one significant difference. Fascism tends to be one dictator, and Communism tends to be a committee. If you really have to, you can figure out how to deal with one guy, and survive. Committees change too much, and everyone will irritate a majority of the committee eventually.
They're pretty much the same, but Fascism is easier to deal with.

Conservatives are neither!!
The Liberal Ideology teaches both --
1. Government imposed over-taxation - given in return to those who do not have full-citizenship, those who are not employed, and to federal healthcare, sanctuary city-funding, etc, etc. Thus ... Communism.
2. State imposed rights - Thus, Fascism

This is an excellent question I hope that I can answer it clearly for you. Communism is at the extreme left side of the political scale and is total government control. All business and infrastructure are owned and controlled by the government. Slightly to the right of Communism is Fascism. Business is privately owned but is controlled by the Government. The far right of the political scale is anarchy. So you see that the idea that Fascism is the extreme right of the political scale incorrect so is the statement that the "right" is authoritian is also in correct the further to the right of the political scale that you go the less authority that the government has. The United States is roughly in the middle of the political scale as a Representative Republic. BTW you don't sound ignorant or like an asshole simply someone who has a very intelligent observation and wanted it clarified.

i can say the difference buddy.Just imagine you have a cow.It gives nearly 15 litres of milk per day.but around you there are so many people who are so poor that they can't get milk a day.
The government want to solve the problem.so they decided to take your cow from you.
here you can see the difference
COMMUNISM:the government takes your cow & they give the milk to you & everyone for free.
FASCISM:The government seizes your cow from you & they wont give milk to you & even to the poor for free and you also had to buy from them.
