A salaried person is paid to do what they are assigned , if more hours are asked for , then you work them. being salaried generally means your getting a much higher wage then the regular employees. And it puts you under obligation.

Actually 48 is common for salaried people ,
Part of the price of the $$$$$ .
But , ultimately , it is your contract that answers this question .

It's not unethical to ask, but if you've been working 40-hour weeks and refuse to increase your hours, it may not be legal to fire you; that depends on the laws in your state.
