There are so many things that can cause this and most are nothing to worry about. Some things it could be are:
stress
infection
a hormonal imbalance
non-ovulatory bleeding
pcos (polycystic ovary syndrome)

At your age, the most common cause is non-ovulatory bleeding. It never hurts to see a gynecologist though and it will put your mind at ease.
