they released him of his contract due to wellness program violations. even though he was no longer employed they kept his picture & information on their websites for storyline purposes.

Rob Van Dam's contract with the WWE ended. Knowing the WWE, they had to put a storyline to it. So the "Legend Killer" Randy Orton beat RVD and kicked his head until unconcious.
But not to fear TNA is adopting Rob Van Dam.

He was kicked in the face by Randy Orton, and that was the whole reason he was put out. But his contract really expired.
