My English teacher said the reason no one in our school did that was because it was seen as religious, wow, I mean, seriously, it's not, for some people it might be, but it's just a sec to remember what happened, to take a moment and reflect.
Definitely report him, that was very rude, especially since your brother was killed. I'm sorry for your loss. :(

Yes you should.
First of all you suffered a personal loss which makes this worse for you. I haven't...but i also was a tad bit pissed today when the principal said we weren't going to have a moment of silence.
9/11, never forget. Apparently people ARE and it's not RIGHT.
Report your teacher. He had no right to say that. Especially to you.

I would let my Principal know and I would let the teacher know that I was trying to honor my brother and it was none of his business what I was doing with the Principal's permission. If you feel that you have to take it higher than do so. I would also let my parents know. I sort of know how you feel because I lost my husband on 9-11-88 so this day has doubly bad day for my family.

Leave all aggression aside. Reflect why 9/11 happened. Some people became aggressive ... wanted revenge. On an occassion like this learn to forgive and forget. Learn to tolerate and do not be on short fuse. The world needs tolerance today all the more. Peace... peace peace!!

I think you posting here, is a greater sign or respect than a moment of silence.
However your teacher abused their authority, and that requires appropriate action on your part.
Report this abuse to the principal !

Good God what kind of teacher is this!!!!!
When he said that, you should have replied, "sorry if it is a waste of your time but my brother died in that disaster and this is a special day for me....make the teacher feel like crap!!!
What does this have to do with religion???

There is no need to drag authority in to the issue, but maybe you should, in private, let him/her know that a moment of silence is not religious or denominational in any respects, and is merely a sign of collective respect for the deceased, does not acknowledge any divine presence or require prayer. And, you should also let him/her know that you feel that it was disrespectful of her not to allow it to go on.

Yes. While they are not allowed to REQUIRE prayer, it is not illegal for you to pray if you so choose. Especially if your principal TOLD them to give you a moment. Talk to the principal. If that doesn't work, try the school board.

a moment of silence doesnt have to do with religion, its out of respect for people who lost their lives! it doesnt have to be religious at all. if i were you i would have stood up and told him "i lost my brother on that day, and now im going to the principal to tell him exactly what you just said" because it was very disresepectful of him to inturupt this moment of rememberance. report him.

I've best ever said one man (two times) You all recognize him, he consistently posts "That wasn't a query, and is in violation of the Y&A blah blah, so i am reporting you" I record that an rant and threats.
