It may effect your baby, the first 3 month are very important to a babies brain development. I hope your baby is ok, and I'm glad your off the drugs.

The worse thing is if you kept doing drugs. So good for you for quitting! That can be very difficult because alcohol and cocaine can be addictive, for you and baby! Since you stopped now your chances of a low birth weight have dramatically reduced!! So please don't be discouraged by some of the negativity. I knew a girl who got pregnant from date-rape when she was just 12! and at the time on heroine and marijuana. Since she was so young she did not discover the pregnancy till well into the first trimester. She quit immediately and the baby was 10lbs 4oz!! He was fine and given up for adoption. So that is a real-life story not just some retoric from someone that wants you to feel bad. Please don't start feeling like all hope is lost. You can still do right by this new little life. Take care of yourself and do not stress out. You are living FOR someone! Many women who have children with fas(fetal alcohol syndrome) continue to drink throughout the whole 9mos. Continue to see an ob(ask maybe for a high-risk) and eat healthy and do not stress out. You did the right thing by quitting. I will leave a link for merk pharmaceuticals on the subject. You may aso google actual statistics for fas and how long the women drank through pregnancy. Good job on quitting! Keep doing the right thing!

Edited to add: okay, I have to tell you the girl mentioned above is me, and it's still hard to this day to talk(or even type) about it in first person. Due to poor parenting/supervision I got into drugs early and thus got myself raped and pregnant. I want you to know though that even though lots of people that know you used are going to make it very hard on you. I had so much fear and doubt and I felt like the worst person on earth(that on top of the rape). This was 13 yrs ago and I know the family that adopted him(open adoption) he was born NOT addicted b/c I quit so early and he is so smart now. He is in all GT and doing so well. That baby changed my life, even saved it, if not for him I would not have quit heroine and that is a KILLER. You are going to get the greatest love from this child and you already sound like a great mom. Make sure you do the best thing for this new little person. It might be hard(like not hanging around the same crowd and quitting doing stuff you love) but it is so worth it. This person is going to meet so many people and change so many lives and you are bringing them in the world. Good for you for quitting once you found out!

Sorry to say, yes.. I admire you for quitting as soon as you found out. Many wouldn't. The more you do, the more damage it causes, so it's wonderful that you quit when you did. Chances are everything's fine! It sounds like you really love your baby, and sometimes that's all it takes to get the perfect baby. Serious complications are very rare. You're gonna be a great mom! All a baby needs is love like yours and the best possible nutrition which is what you're giving your child right now. Go mama!!

Well yes it will have an effect. The first couple of months are the most important and when the most defects occur. It's good that you stopped now though so that at least the baby will not be born with withdrawls, which would cause the hospital to drug test the baby and call child services.

The following are characteristics of cocaine exposed infants:

* Prematurity
* Lowerbirthweight, shorter
* Smaller head circumference
* A piercing cry, which is apparently indicative of neurological dysfunction
* Lower Apgar score
* Irritability and hypersensitivity. The newborn shoots from sleep to screaming and is inconsolable.
* Poorfeeding
* High respiratory and heart rates
* Tremulousness
* Startling responses
* Poor sleep patterns
* Significantly lower scores on two of the dimensions measured by the Brazelton Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scales (BNBAS): 1) scales related to interactive abilities, and 2) scales related to organizational responses to environmental stimuli. Infants who perform poorly on the BNBAS are considered high risk, especially if performance is poor in more than one of the behavioral dimensions.
* Inability to respond to caregiver. These cocaine exposed infants are largely unable to respond to the human voice and face and are unable to interact with others.
* An increased risk of malformations of the genito-urinary tract. Dr. Chasnoff recommends that these infants should have routine ultra-sound evaluations of their kidneys in order to rule out such defects.
* There is evidence that the use of cocaine shortly before birth can be associated with cerebral infarction (stroke) which damages the brain of the newborn. A CT scan of the brain may be indicated when both the infant and mother test highly positive for cocaine at the time of birth and when there are additional indications to suggest a stroke might have occurred.
* A greater incidence of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). In Dr. Chasnoff's sample, 15% of the infants died of SIDS, more than triple that of heroin or methadone exposed infants.
* Sleep pattern abnormalities associated with apnea and deep sleep, which may be associated with the greater incidence of SIDS
* Visual abnormalities which may be associated with retinopathy or damage to the iris. This is thought to be related either to actual damage caused by the cocaine and/or the premature birth associated with such use.

yes itcan affect your baby but i am very glad you stopped for your sake and your baby's good on you for having the strength to do that for the baby im sure you will be a great mum but you should just get a special scan to determine whether or not it has hurt your baby and if they cant do that then you will have to wait until it is born but good luck and i hope it all turns out well for the both of you and please stay off the drugs even when the baby is born

First 3 months are most crucial cuz thats when the babies spine and brain and pretty much everything is starting to form. You will probably have a premature baby, deformed baby or a still born. If youre really lucky it might be healthy.

im so sorry, but the first three monthes are extremely crucial to your child's development. see a doctor and ask about any medicines you can take or foods you can eat that will lessen the impact of what you have been doing to your body. congratultions on the baby and on quitting drugs and drinking. i wish you strength, luck and patience in your time of need. email me if you need to talk...

Yes, it can. Your baby's most important time of development has already been happening and all those drugs may have done damage to your baby. I think you need to speak with your doctor. There are tests that they can do to find out if any damage has been done. I hope your baby is alright and please don't do anything else to harm your child.

My adopted son was born testing positive for cocaine, heroine, and Valium. He is very smart, but has to take 4 different pills, three times a day in order to be able to function in society. You have damaged your child's brain and now you have to live with the consequences. If I could get my hands around the throat of the woman who took illegal street drugs while she was pregnant with my son, I believe I would choke the life out of her for all of the suffering she has caused my baby. You need your *** kicked.

It is possible. Most critical part of development is 5-8 weeks (from first day of last period).

The good news is that you stopped.

I will pray for your baby.
