I have always played football with my friends for fun and i have always been told that im good and should play for a team. Im not very good knowing what each position does. I am a freshman and i want to try out next year so if someone could write the positions and tell me what they do that would be good. Also if you play that certain position could you right what you should be to able to do good (like fast or big)

center; hikes the ball to the Quarterback
left and right Guard; blockers
left and right Tackle; blockers
Tight end: blocker and pass receiver
End: pass receiver and down field blocker
Half back: High speed running back
Full back: power running back
Quarterback: Captain and ball handler passes, runs or hands off the ball.

Defense:
Nose guard: generally lines up on the center guards the middle of the line of scrimmage
tackles: guard the center of the line of scrimmage
Line backers: center. left and right Mobile tacklers and underneath pass protection;
Defensive backs: pass protection and down field tacklers
Rover: Not use by all teams; Free safety or line backer that can go where the play goes.
Most defensive players are assigned and area to protect and have other assignments as a play progresses.
Place kicker: Usually the High scorer in the season; kicks extra points and kickoffs
Punter: kicks 4th down plays

I'm sure that I have forgotten something but that is a broad list that should give you an idea.

OFFENSE- Quarterback: Throw the ball to the recievers
Wide Recievers: Catch the ball
Runningbacks: Run with the ball
Offensive Line: Block for the QB and runningback
Tight End: Either blocks or catches

Quarterback- throws ball, manages game, hands to runner.

Running back- Runs the ball and blocks on passing plays

Wide Reciever- Goes out to catch the ball, blocks some plays

Tightend- basically a bigger wide reciever that can also block

offensive tackle on offensive line blocks for the quarterback.

offensive guard- same as tackle but on the inner part of line

Center- in the center of offensive line, hikes ball and blocks.

defensive end- on outside of line rushes the QB

defensive tackle inner part of line trys to stop run and pass

linebacker- stop the running back and support d-line

defensive back- guard the wide recievers

Alright basically they like the QB to be tall not so big, all linemen are supposed to be big, the TE should be big, agile and able to catch, wide recievers are the ones that love to run and are fast hope this helps.

The coach will decide what position you will fit into. The things he'll look at are size, weight, speed, and agility, not to mention intangibles like leadership and heart. Try out for the team and give it your all and you won't be like us old guys that play fantasy football and sit around the TV armchair QBing all the time secretly wishing we would have tried out for the team. Good luck.
