I am 21 weeks and really want to buy or rent my own fetal monitor. They are pretty expensive- to get the one like they have at the office. The cheap ones at stores like walmart or target have bad ratings so i dont even want to try that. Has anyone rented or bought one to just have during your pregnancy? I personally feel that having one will make me feel better when she still doesnt have definite movements and that i can check on my baby before i go to my appointments. Im on bedrest and to me it would make me feel better.

To the 'nurse'--- sometimes it's just reassuring to hear a heartbeat. If you're feeling a bit upset or stressed about something you can break out the little monitor and hear the pitter of a lil heartbeat thumpin along..I knew whenever I heard that lil beat it put a big smile on my face. She doesn't need to know all the "proper" training to get the needed reassurance that she needs.

I myself didn't have a fetal monitor. I didn't buy one of the cheapo ones because I did the research and saw crappy ratings too. I wish I had one- there's plenty on the web you can check out. I couldn't imagine being on bed rest so early, if you have the extra cash to spare, why not?

here's a couple of sites that I found:

1] like you said, they are very expensive
2] do you know what a healthy heartrate is supposed to look like?
3] do you know what age a baby develops a 'normal' rhythm?
4] what signs are reassuring?
5] what are signs of problems?
