How would that affect them when they apply for medical school? The person is majoring in Nursing.

They're chances of getting into medical school are incredibly slim. You can repeat some classes for a better grade but it all shows up on your transcript. Having a C in anatomy isn't enough either and a B is probably not going to cut it. In medical school you need A's and you better have A's to get in. One of the big reasons is that you need to have a thorough knowledge of anatomy, among other things, in order to take care of people when their lives are in your hands.

I hope no medical school would admit someone that got only a C in Anatomy on the second try! I would not go to a doctor that couldn't get a decent grade in Anatomy as a undergrad!

The grade itself is replaced in your GPA, since you can't get two grades for the same course, but the D still shows up on the transcript, so the medical schools would recognize that you took the course twice.
