As reported by money.cnn.com, Warren Farrell, author of Why Men Earn More: The Startling Truth Behind the Pay Gap – and What Women Can Do About It, believes this is a case of comparable pay versus equal pay, or apples and oranges. He says men are more likely to make life-decisions that will lead to a higher annual salary. He says males are more apt (than women) to relocate or travel for work, take on more dangerous jobs (over 90 percent of workplace deaths are reportedly men), work in the difficult (read boring) sciences, seek jobs that require financial risk and work jobs in unpleasant environments.

Hillary Clinton is definitely using her position to help push equal pay for all. It has been said that women make about 23 per cent less than men. I don't know if the salary will ever change - but there are some jobs (teachers, for example) that are based entirely upon your degree, number of years in education (steps). I am being paid fairly for this position however, I think teachers overall - are not paid nearly enough.

Studies have shown for years that women holding the same positions consistently receive less pay. I think the reason dates back to men being considered the primary bread winner while womens income was always considered secondary and less needed. But today as opposed to 50 yrs ago more women live independently due to high divorce rates, career focus, etc. So it's time to equalize the incomes. Fair pay for an honest day of work, regardless of your gender.

Maybe they do a better job, are better qualified, put in more hours, and are more dedicated and passionate about their work? Did you consider that possibility? That men might be more career oriented than women on the whole?

Also, don't generalize about salaries - often those figures don't include the fact that many women take maternity leave or quit the workforce all together to raise their families.

this is a misnomer. The statistics used to make this claim takes the average of working age men and compares them to working age women across the board. the problem with this is, there are many women who work lesser paying jobs so that they can have more time with their families and there are more men who sacrifice their families for big paying jobs. I would be very surprised to see ANY PROOF that there is a vast number of women who make less than men working the same job. I am sure there are isolated incidents but its not the norm. If I'm wrong, I apologize but I don't think I am

in a few of the jobs i had, i ended up doing lots of work for the women. Especially anything physical, they would always ask guys to do it for them.
I dont think men should get paid more to do the same job, but we should get paid more if the women keep asking me to go replace the water bottle for drinking water.

this is not the way i feel, but rather the way that it is:

the world is controlled by men. whether they admit it or not there is a bias against women. it's not just in the middle east that women are thought of as second class citizens. didn't women have to work to get to vote? it's still a man's world and will continue to be so.
