You are still young. Sometimes it takes until you are in your 20s, for your cycle to regulate. Don't start worrying yet.

Your age may be responsible for your irregular periods. After menarche (your first period), it can take up to 3 years for a girl's periods to become regular. Irregular periods can also be caused by vigorous exercise, weight gain/loss of 10 pounds or more, medications, and stress, but again, your age is likely the culprit.

Your pituitary gland and your ovaries produce hormones that regulate your menstrual cycle. It often takes those 3 years for these glands to get "in sync" with each other.

At age 16, you may be too young to think about having kids! I'm glad you're planning to attend college.

You probably do not need to see a doctor unless you have very heavy, painful periods.

Yes you can, as long as you are ovulating. Irregular periods are actually quite normal at your age. Some doctor's prescribe birth control pills to help you get on a more normal schedule. Actually, teenage girls are very active that is why sometimes they have irregular periods. Another thing might be the amount of body fat you have. If you are too thin that causes irregular periods. I just really don't understand why your parents won't take you to a doctor. That sounds weird. If you have any questions go to your school nurse or try a free clinic. Remember college is not as important as your health. If you are not healthy now you won't make it to college. Take care of yourself first! Good luck!

If you just started, you'll probably not be regular for a while. Most girls have are irregular the first few times. It'll even out soon enough, so don't worry! I had the same issue. I was a bit irregular the first couple times, but now it's evened out. It's all a part of growing up, my dear! :)
