About 15 years ago I would wake up in the middle of the night with horrible pain in my lower back. I went to a Chiropractor for months with no results. He finally referred me to a sports medicine doctor, who looked at me for all of 3 minutes. Then told me that my right leg is 3/8 of an inch shorter than the left, and to buy heel inserts for my shoes. I went to a shoe repair shop and it only cost me about $5 to get the insert.
I could feel the difference immediately. The pain went away until the insert got lost. But by then my feet were 10 times worse than the back ever was. It seems I have fallen arches. Prescription Orthotics have been a part of my life for over 12 years now. I will never be without them.
Ant to think of all that money I spent on a quack for nothing.

It depends what type of back pain you have. Sometimes I get back pain from sleeping funny or sitting down too long. That goes away by itself, if I walk around for a while. Whereas my sister has scoliosis (curvature of the spine) so she has chronic back pain. She sleeps on a firm mattress, gets a massage regularly, sometimes she sleeps with a hot water bottle or those gel heat pads and she also has to watch her weight. It sounds like alot but thats how she keeps mobile and with less pain. My sister is only 20.

I have back pain everyday. I go to the chiropractor when I am in town. I am a truck driver. My husband had severe back pain and ended up having to have surgery. It worked great and he no longer suffers with pain. I have been told mine is not bad enough for surgery yet. Go figure. I guess I have to be pretty much a cripple before they will fix the problem

YES! A few times. I've sprained my back doing things that shouldn't have even caused a back sprain...Changing sheets, sweeping the floor, getting up from a chair wrong.. STUPID stuff! NOT even stuff I enjoyed doing! PFF! COME ON!
I was given vicadin for it, but I didn't take it. I asked for a mild muscle relaxer instead. Took hot baths, put a heating pad on it. Time and over the counter pain meds. It has gone away.

Absolutely yes ...... started when I turned 35 and its been getting worse ever since.
Have been to lots of doctors and had lots of different treatments. Nothing worked.
You need to find out what is causing it and manage your pain by resting your back before things get too bad.
For me it is standing too long or sitting too long. I try and keep moving and changing positions now. I also take 10 minute breaks and lie down. Lying down is the only way to properly rest your back.
We also bought a Tempur mattress and my back is much better. It is the best thing we ever did.

Having a growing child that always wants to be picked up, you bet I got back pain. I usually just try to be careful about how I'm lifting and if I'm hurting, lie flat on my back with no pillows at night. My wife had a lot of trouble after the baby, she couldn't straighten up and had a back spasm, now she goes to a chiropractor and is doing much better.

Yes I live with back pain every day. I have 2 herniated disks in lower back. No it doesn't go away. And I haven't had it treated because I don't want to have major surgery.

Just once, and it was very intense, in my lower back. It went away without treatment, it only lasted a few days, but I was very sorry for all of the times I doubted anyone that had complained of back pain.

yea, once i had my girlfriend give me a massage, so she kinda sat on my thighs/butt area ya kno and gave me one. but after i got up i was having extremely sharp pains in my lower back area and i didn't know what it was. the pain spread from my lower back to my thighs. when i asked my mom (who is an RN), she said i just pulled a muscle that pregnant women pull very commonly and that i must have just moved the wrong way. it went away in a day or two with sleep, small crunch exercises, and walking.
