My own children are not vaccinated for Varicella (Chicken Pox) b/c I think it's a totally bogus jab. Skip MMR if you want to and feel you're right to do so (ie have done your research), keeping in mind that males are often rendered sterile by the mumps. I implore you, however, as the mother of a child who contracted meningococcemia (bacterial meningitis) at 12 1/2 months NOT to skip HiB or the meningococcal vaccine. Meningitis is the third leading killer of children in the world after starvation and dysentery. My daughter lost 75% of her L foot, 4 of her L fingertips and much of her mental functioning and she was LUCKY. Five people in my community DIED of meningitis and its sequelae in Winter,1997. (Colfax, CA) (and NO ONE, ie, the Department of Public Health, even bothered to tell us until afterwards that it was in the community.) We know one little girl from Lake Tahoe who lost all her limbs, plus parts of her face. This is a disease with an 80% negative outcome. That means 80% of the people who contract it either die or lose parts of their body and/or their sight, hearing or mental functioning. I know literally thousands of people who've had chicken pox and shingles with no serious outcome other than a few pock marks. Almost everyone I've met who is a meningococcemia survivor has some serious sequelae, the least of which is learning disabilities, mental retardation, neurological impairment, limb loss. These are two vaccines that work and that even the most skeptical of parents should NOT skip nor even think about skipping or omitting. I also would not skip Polio or Diphtheria. Yes, there were some problems w/ the Pertussis vaccine, in that 90% of the children who came down w/ Pertussis, or whooping cough, were fully vaccinated (Rhode Island, early 1990's) but if you've ever held, taken care of, of seen a child suffering from whooping cough, especially an infant or really little child, you might think twice. I am also the aunt of a child on the autism spectrum, and STILL I say these things to you and urge you to get at the very least the more serious and deadly diseases vaccinated against. I, too, have done immense amounts of research and have MULTITUDES of friends who've made the same decisions you have, many of those decisions which I support. I just CANNOT and WILL NOT support you in not vaccinating against Polio and Meningitis. It's not even a calculated risk. It's just parental abuse and negligence and STUPIDITY on those two diseases and their immunizations from my perspective. What you "have been through with this vaccination ordeal", will PALE by comparison should your child contract Polio, Diphtheria, Meningitis of any kind (and there's at least two viruses and five bacteria that can cause meningitis, including the Tuberculosis bacterium which is EXTREMELY common in the environment of all countries, btw.) NONE of us makes these decisions lightly, but none of us can say we've made them fully informed either, until you've either been through the disease process itself with your child or seen and known someone else who has. Imagine sitting in a hot tub room w/ your infant baby daughter, 12 1/2 months old and seeing her little left foot debrided down to the bone for the entire length of the foot, from the toes to the heel. Imagine seeing her ligaments and tendons and bones open and exposed to the air and her foot completely denuded of skin and watch her go through the agony of having the dead skin soaked and further debrided off that precious little foot, but not being able to cry or scream or do anything, because you don't want to scare her or have her have to feel one bit more pain than she has to. Please, I beg you, fu*king wake up. I am a longterm (9 years in all) breastfeeding, make my own babyfood, family bed/co-sleeping, completely natural birth earthy crunchy mom. And I'm telling you, you have no bloody idea what the hell you're (not) doing. Also know that every single time a child in your child's school comes down w/ chicken pox, your child will be (and will have to be, by law) excluded from school for 21 days (which is the incubation period for varicella). If even only one child a month gets sick w/ this illness and your child doesn't contract it, your child could conceivably miss his entire year of school, every single year until he contracts the disease and you can prove he's made sufficient antibodies to it, which will involve a jab to him. You might as well just get the shot. My daughter has been exposed to chicken pox at least 3 times, but has never come down with it. I don't judge anyone, and I'm not attacking you. I'm begging you, and every single other parent out there: Get your child immunized for at the very least Polio, Meningitis, Diphtheria and I would say Hep B, as well. From my perspective, it is the ONLY responsible decision one can make, even taking negative vaccine events into consideration.

Just write in your own handwriting the following:
I (insert your name), the parent of (insert your child's name) have chosen not to have my child vaccinated with (insert the names of the vaccines you are 'rejecting') until further notice in writing. Sign it, date it, and keep the 'original' and two 'copies' and give the doctor's office a 'copy' ... it does NOT have to be notarized, and you do NOT have to put your 'reasons' down ... but you MAY be 'asked' about those reasons when you enroll your son in school ... and they MUST BE LEGAL or you will be 'required by law' to have him vaccinated before he can go to 'class' ...

Well, I suggest it says something as this:
" We, ..................... as parents and legal representatives of ................. WONT ACCEPT ANY KIND OF VACCINE ON HIM, and will accept any responsibility on the effects of our choice, specially the acquisition of the diseases the vaccines were meant to prevent.
Signatures......"
And yes, it will need to be notarized and that way it will be valid until he becomes of age and he writes down one statement for himself about the topic.
