Women lactate when they give birth to a child, not because they have reached a certain age.

From the time puberty hits. It's a hormonal reaction. Your hormones can cause you to lactate even if you aren't pregnant, but it's pretty unusual.

There have been reported cases of men lactating as well. The breast of a man and the breast of a woman are exactly the same. The difference lies in hormone production. Cool, huh?

I lactated once when I was 15 due to a side effect of Risperdal. It was SO strange! Once I stopped taking the medicine, I stopped lactating.

Lactation is a horemonal reaction to pregnancy. Any woman who has reached puberty can lactate although it would be rare for a post-menopausal woman to have the approprite hormones occuring naturally.
