In all love stories, the man falls madly in love with the woman, and the woman thinks she's too good for him. Then he has to prove himself and finally she gives in. Also, in love stories where the lovers are separated by class, the woman is always of a higher class than the man. Yet I don't find this to be a particularly accurate description of real life. I'm only in high school, so the guys haven't quite matured, but it seems like they always take advantage of girls, and I can just imagine them comparing later about who they screwed. Why would they use the same cliche in stories for something that is not even true in real life?

You are very smart for someone in highschool. If you want to hook up with women dont read those Love stories. It will mess you up. Those stories are the reasons that women want men to break their back for them. If women really wanted eqaulity, then they would start paying for the first date, asking men out, and even asking men to mary them. This will probably never happen. They like being chased too much and getting the attention, not giving. A lot of women are selfish. Men too, but women are taught to be selfish.

I'm going to say they use the same cliche because it sells. Also, a common theme in American film is a "chase" between a man and the woman: the man does the chasing, the woman is chased. Historically, women have had little choice in who they married, and men almost always had the advantage in terms of "choosing." I think this sort of setup is leftover from the old-fashioned idea that a man choosed a woman and a woman must be chosen.

Fantasy. It's like porn for lonely housewives. You know the type, married a jerk who makes good money, and she thought that would be enough, but he's too busy porking the secretary to pay any attention to her. She reads this and thinks, maybe, some great looking guy will go this crazy for me and make me feel like good again. Lonely housewives are frequently so desperate for attention that the fantasy keeps them going. These writers keep shoveling this crap at us because they know it sells.

You're right, fictional stories don't always contain accurate descriptions of real life.

You're not taking into consideration that these gullible high school girls wise up and most stop giving it up so easy after once or twice.

Doesn't sound accurate at all :/
Anyway, romance stories are pretty bad, would much rather read a good horror or sci-fi book.
