I'm 16, living in California, and not any probation, or have any criminal records. I wish to emancipate from my mother for some personal family reasons. What steps do I need to take through the legal system? What are my options once I become emancipated?

I live in Northern California, but it's not really an improvement from Southern California crime wise, gang wise, etc. I believe I have seen enough, I've contemplated long enough, and prepared enough for this. Thanks for your answers, I think I found my best answer and I'll choose it when Yahoo Answers will allow me to.

1. You have to prove that you can support yourself while still attending school.
2. You have to prove that you are mature enough to care for yourself
3. You have to prove that you would be better off not in the charge of your parents
4. You have to prove there are no other options for you.

16 in Southern California and living on your own? That would not be a very good way to start your life. I recommend you toughing it out for another 2 years, graduate from high school, and then move out. even with just a high school diploma, you don't really stand a chance of living a comfortable life. But hey, you're at the age where you think you know it all, so good luck on your quest.

I suggest you work through the personal family reasons. Unless you are being physically abused, you won't be able to get emancipated. The courts are very strict on this issue.

Or you could go to Utah and get married. That makes you emancipated.

Don't really do that though. That was sarcastic.
