The iPod generation is not killing music. Look at your favorite recording artist. Do they look like they're suffering at all? I think not. And their music is generally the most downloaded music from programs like Limewire. You mention record shops closing down. The reason record shops are closing down isn't so much because of illegal downloads, but people switching to a new music format. CD's are losing popularity as the primary music format. People like the convenience that legal download sites (a la iTunes) offer. The ability to purchase only the song that they want without having to leave their home is a very appealing prospect to most people. As for me, I can't remember the last time I purchased a CD. Now you seem to think that illegal downloading is spawned by greedy, malicious no-gooders trying to save a buck. While there are many out there, there are others who download from file-sharing networks because the online stores and record companies have, in essence, forced them to. By adding DRM to their online music, music stores are eliminating potential customers. Music purchased through iTunes, for example, can only be used on the iPod. This is a huge turnoff for many, who do not own iPods. So instead, they turn to filesharing networks to get the music that they want.
If you think that the iPod generation is killing music, you'd better look again. The industry is evolving. Get used to it.

I wouldn't say it's killing music, however, it is taking the fun out actually going out to the shops, and buying a cd, and able to touch what you bought (sounds weird but you know).. Now with downloading music, you can't read the cover sleeves, etc, and I personally like doing that.

I do believe that the iPod generation is killing music. b/c if we teens keep downloading music for free on certain sites, sooner or later the sales will keep decreasing. one of the ways a singer gets paid and deals is through their CD sales. the pro here is that every music lover, like myself, gets to get any song for free. the con is that 20yrs down the road it will have an effect on record sales.sooner or later we'll need a solution to this growing problem.

I think that the record industry is killing music. Have you listened to the radio lately? Nothing but formulaic crap. Your favorite artist can't get on the radio for all the crap already on there and ,very they want us to pay $10 - $15 dollars for a CD when you can pay 0.99 for the one song on the album that is decent.
