Sorry you feel like that Joe, but our countrymen in Iraq aren't fighting for our freedoms their fighting for Bushes money and they don't relieze it. They want to distract us from the problems in America when there is a pointless war going on in Iraq.

No. If it was... this country would be even more 'jacked up' than it already is. Some people have some twisted and distorted views of reality and I want no part of it.

In 1954, Congress after a campaign by the Knights of Columbus, added the words, 'under God,' to the Pledge. The Pledge was now both a patriotic oath and a public prayer.

I would leave it as it is, after all we are a nation built on the basic belief of God, or a greater being. Without God, or the beliefs of a Higher being, just see where this country has headed. There are too many that have no idea what the value of life is, let alone to remove everyone's beliefs as the minority are attempting to do as it is. Those who claim to not be forcing their views on others, actually are in the name of being politically correct. If you don't want to say God that is up to the individual, as for me, I will stay with keeping God as the head of this country.

Make it pre-McCarthy.
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all."

The flag is a symbol of our great nation; so is the American Bald Eagle. Why don't we pledge to the eagle instead ? That should at least make tree huggers happy. If you don't want to say "God", don't. If you are opposed to a "pledge" to an inanimate object, remain silent. You will never make everyone happy.

The original poem is best. One nation, indivisible.
It makes a heck of a lot more sense.

the pledge was written the way the country was founded. the US wasn't founded by muslims or buddists.. it was founded by christians. you don't have to pledge your allegience to this country. you HAVE the right to move elsewhere. it's not like the pledge is forcing you to go to church.
the fact is every one believes in a "god" or no god. allah, budda, mohammad.. they are all their respected religions version of god. if you're an athiest, or a scientist.. then whatever.
it's like telling the parents of a newborn that their baby is adorable, even if it's the ugliest thing you've seen since your morning sh^t.

It was added under Eishenhower's administration, it was not part of the original pledge. I honestly don't think it is that big a deal, students should simply be allowed to respectfully stand if they don't want to say the pledge.

I prefer the pre McCarthy err version.
"One nation, indivisible."
God was only added because we were afraid of communists and it was thought a communist spy would blow their cover because they would not say god.
I hope we are not forced to live in G-Mans America, if you don't want to go along with the group either oust yourself or we'll oust you. Nice.
