My son is going to be a year old close to Halloween, and I would love to make him his first costume. I don't mind paying for a pattern if it isn't too outrageous, but finances are kinda tight. Does anyone know where to find patterns for cute/original costumes that are free or cheap? Thanks for the help.

By the way, my son should be about a size 12-18 mos

no need for a pattern. use a hooded sweat suit and felt. cut some ear shapes and attach them to the hood. cut out spots and adhear them with witches web and an iron. make a tail with the felt and stuff it with pillow stuffing, attach it to the butt. if you use a red suit with black spots, it's clifford. you can be imaginative and make any kind of animal.

Walmart always has their patterns at 50% off, and since it's not something he will wear for a long time you can use some of the $1 special fabric they have on their sale display. If you make the costume really well after you are done sell it the next halloween. That's what I did. Until he was old enough to want to keep the costumes to play in. Also, most of the fabric stores have big sales for halloween so you can probably find patterns and fabric on sale there too.
