If you have one of those new washers, it's a chemical reaction between the laundry detergent and the type plastic used. It's such a problem there is a website devoted to it: www.smellywasher.com
Here's an article about it:

Another thing you might try is mixing a a box of baking soda with about a half dozen hydrogen peroxide bottle's contents and 2 Tbs. dishwasher soap, not laundry soap. Fill with hot water only to the lowest setting and let it go through a cycle. This is an approximation of the chemicals used to clean water cooling tubes in industrial situations......(and a darn good skunk odor remover for the dog....minus the hot water, you will wash it off with pet shampoo and water eventually)
Otherwise try the guy's product at www.smellywasher.com

1) Don't leave laundry in the washer after the cycle is over; get it out now! The longer you leave it, the worse it will smell.
2) If that's not the issue, try adding some Downy or something.
Good luck!

Something might be going on with your washer. Sometimes if a washer is not draining correctly, it will cause the laundry to smell bad. Other than that, I can't think of anything else.

Try adding a cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle. It will leave you clothes fresh and soft.
It works best on odors caused by natural things like urine or mold.

I used to use tide w/o bleach and my towels still smelled bad. So now i always use tide with bleach, gets rid of the odors and makes them smell fresh. Warm water is helpful too. If its that sour smell after leaving them in the washer wet too long then just re-wash them.

Try a cup of amonia and hot water and run through a cycle. This cleans all the soap scum etc. out of the tub and hoses.
