internet is the truncated name for internetwork which is a collection of networks connected by networking devices. These networks can be LAN (A local area network in a small geographical area) , WAN (wide area networks to interconnect the LANs) by means of technologies like ADSL, T1 , T3 etc using copper wires, fibre optics and wireless connexions.

The OSI model(consists of seven layers, i won't go into detail though) is the reference model which dictates the framework for the passage of information from one computer to another through a network medium . However the communication takes place thru' protocols(which are LAN, WAN, routing protocols etc. for example TCP/IP , BGP, DHCP etc. ) which implement the functions of the OSI layers . You'll have to study the OSI model and its layers to understand the interaction between the layers and protocols.

Whereas, the Internet is the largest internet(what i mentioned above) i.e. a collection of thousands of internetworks linked by a common set of protocols .

And these two terms (internet and Internet) don't even mean the world wide web. the WWW is just a subnetwork of the Internet propelled by the http protocol which is a huge set of interlinked resources . Internet is a collection of many such subnetwork protocols.

I think you mean Internet vs Intranet?

Intranet : A network based on TCP/IP protocols (an internet) belonging to an organization, usually a corporation, accessible only by the organization's members, employees, or others with authorization. An intranet's Web sites look and act just like any other Web sites, but the firewall surrounding an intranet fends off unauthorized access.
Like the Internet itself, intranets are used to share information. Secure intranets are now the fastest-growing segment of the Internet because they are much less expensive to build and manage than private networks based on proprietary protocols.

Internet: A global network connecting millions of computers. More than 100 countries are linked into exchanges of data, news and opinions.
Unlike online services, which are centrally controlled, the Internet is decentralized by design. Each Internet computer, called a host, is independent. Its operators can choose which Internet services to use and which local services to make available to the global Internet community. Remarkably, this anarchy by design works exceedingly well.
There are a variety of ways to access the Internet. Most online services, such as America Online, offer access to some Internet services. It is also possible to gain access through a commercial Internet Service Provider (ISP).
The Internet is not synonymous with World Wide Web.

No difference. It refers to the same subject. It is almost like use of the word World, or Earth.

Both of these are the same. The only difference is the lower case "i" in the second use of the word 'internet'.

Hope this helps.
