He has been in many brilliant films, BUT which of his role's was the best? I though he was amazing as Brahm Stoker's Dracula. And his transformations were fantastic, it never fails to amaze me, that the make-up artists can change his appearance so that you wouldn't know who he was in another film, unless you knew he was in it beforehand.

Hi SiriusBlacksLover,

1st things first - You can love the character, but I love the man!!! lol.

You are right about the difference in his appearance when he plays different characters. His Dracula transformations where amazing! His transformations between the young and old Count, I mean I knew he played the younger but the older looked nothing like him, unbelievable!!!

I adored him as Sid, he was more like Sid than Sid was, lol.

All his characters, even the minor roles, where made memorable by Gary, his characters usually end up stealing the films and making them the hits that they are.

Hey Pocket Battleship!!! He didn't die in The Prisoner of Azkaban!

Not being facetious, but his best role was as director of the semi-autobiographical "Nil By Mouth".

The performances of Kathy Burke & Ray Winstone are absolutely fantastic. A harrowing film, made even more so that it is based on fact.

As an actor I would say his best role was in Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are dead, as this was the film that brought both him and Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs etc) to Hollywood's attention.

Anyhoo great actor

Some other great Gary Oldman movies;
Romeo must die

Basquiat
The Scarlet letter (a personal favourite, not an amazing film; but oldman really shines in this)
True Romance (small part but he was just fantastic)
Rozencrantz and Guildenstern are dead (just amazing)
Leon (sinister)
The fifth element...Zorg

Hope this helped

The Professional, True Romance, and Dracula are some of my personal favorites.

I absolutely hated the movie version of Hannibal, but I think Oldman was the highlight as Mason Verger.

The ultimate Oldman movie is Sid and Nancy. Their lives were so tragic and he was great.

He does drama and comedy equally well

Remember him as Joey's drunk co-star on friends? He was hilarious.

Loved him in Sid & Nancy, thought it was spot on. Liked him in The Professional (Leon), True Romance, State of Grace, The Fifth Element (truly goofy) and Immortal Beloved. Great character actor.

Two movies, for their connections:
In "Romeo is Bleeding", he plays a corrupt cop, Jack Grimaldi, who barely survives an encounter with Lena Olin, who plays a psychotic Russian criminal.
In "Leon" or "The Professional", he again plays a corrupt cop, Stansfield, who's even more nuts than his role in "Romeo is Bleeding." (I think it's a kind of sequel to RIB); and what's more, he also references his role as "Beethoven", as just before Stansfield starts to beat or kill someone, he puts in his earphones and gets psyched up by listening to Beethoven!

His role in "Fifth Element" is certainly up there, too.
