Microwave Fire?

Hi, I am 11 yr old grl and my mom put a potatoe in the microwave with a papertowel covering it. We put it on and 30 secs. later my dad yelled fire and the whole micriwave caught into flames. Our microwave is 3 yrs. old and we have done this MANY MANY times without nothing ever happening. Does anyone have any idea? Also our house was full of smoke but the smoke detector never went off if anyone knows plz answer?!?!?

next time wet the paper towel, if paper towel has printed designs on it it could have been the ink, in the paper. male a potato bag for the micro, out of cotton,

I think the microwave was simply defective.A potato and a paper towel is not going to start a fire in a normal microwave.Many microwaves have been recalled over the years because of fire hazard.My sears Kenmore was on of the ones recalled.Do a inter net search on your model of microwave.

Replace the smoke detector and the microwave. Both are very inexpensive. It's not worth taking a chance.

make sure you check the batters in the smoke detector as for the potato humm not sure and caughting the microwave on fire I never heard of a thing but remember a microwave cooks from the inside out. Don't try this but when I was about your age I put a grasshopper in ours darn that critter flew all around in there my mom later killed me for it
