What is the best material for building an outdoor patio? In terms of ease of installation as well as price?

I plan to build an above ground pond next to it that will be just high enough to still easily view while seated on the patio. I have used concrete pavers to build up around a pond before. I think maybe brick will look nice next to flagstone. Our house is white with black shutters. Color suggestions for stone/brick?

I'd guess that bricks/concrete pavers would be the least expensive and easiest to do. all square corners... and they fit together easily.

Whoa! Hold on. Too many paving selections. Stick with one paving idea or if you must go with two, keep them similar or same color. You don't want a Hodge podge.

You have the retaining wall.......if you try to run something up next to it, you'll have a million cuts to make it fit correctly. Instead make a straight line in front of it.......9 inches or so....and then use a small stone to fill in between. Then carry the stone around as a mulch around shrubs or whatever.

You have an B & W house, which is alread contrasting, pick a color for your paving and stick to that....hopefully the same item.....but I'll leave that up to you. Boring? Not at all. Unifying. Then use your landscape planting and patio furniture to created interest and contrast.
