While many people dislike the social programs FDR initiated, they must remember it came after the crash, when the majority of America was destitute and my believe that without them we'd be a 3rd world country right now.
BTW, he didn't get elected 4 times for nothing.

That is like comparing apples to oranges. Both men had a huge problem on their hands but Roosevelt eased into his (he was president when Pearle Harbor happened) and Lincoln was in the storm from the first day.
Lincoln suspended many rights and laws and I don't know if Roosevelt did the same thing (I don't think so but I could be wrong).
Given the public opinion was with Roosevelt (more or less) and the country united, I would say Abe had a bigger problem on his hands but rose to meet the challange.
I would say given all that, Abrahram Lincoln gets the edge.

That's not a straight-forward comparison.
They were both exactly what the country needed in their day, but nobody knows how they would have performed if their circumstances had been reversed.
Lincoln most likely would have failed during the Depression, but he was exactly what we needed during the Civil War.
FDR might not have had the strength to buck his own party's leadership like Lincoln did during the Civil War.
They were both the right men for the job at hand at their moment in history.
That's really all we can say.

Have to give it to Abe. Abe was more open then FDR, a kind of cloak and dagger guy actually, and let's face it without Abe the US wouldn't exist today. Yes, FDR got us out of the depression, but he led us back into another and if it wasn't for the onset of WWII it would have been worse then the Great Depression, on top of that FDR has left us with the failed legacy of Social Security, so I have to give it to Abe.

Abe Lincoln freed the slaves, but he also made the mistake of taking the South back. America would be better off without it.

Abraham Lincoln. Roosevelt was a socialist. Today we are stuck with many of his social programs, like Social Security and mandatory retirement.
Conservative economists have stated that FDR's government actually prolonged the depression. We only got out of it because of WWII.

They both had different problems at different times and they both made mistakes but in the end they brought our country through difficult times. F.D.R. did suspend civil rights for some people "concentration camps for the Japanese".

FDR
Part of Lincoln's appeal was that he was a martyr.
FDR was far and away a better leader.

well... that's a tough one...
I personally like FDR a smidge better because his opinions were closer to mine...
but I think that you're doing pretty good with either one...
looking at those two makes you wonder about who we have been electing... Bush and Clinton? come on...
