I said the exact same thing today at work, but feared voicing it as I thought I was the only one and it sounds awful.
Las year was the 5 year anniversary and we watched everything that was on for months. I feel saturated with it.
I want to forget about it for a bit so that when I do remember it I am not de sensitised to the horror. I fear that we will get so used to seeing the images that they will lose their impact on furture generations.
It's a similar thing in the UK with Princess Diana. It was terrible but they have never let it go. Every bloody year they drag out the whole conspiracy sh it and her poor sons have never had the chance to move on.
The families deserve a break. To get on with their lives and not have relive the worst days of their lives over and over again.
Hope I havent offended anyone. But have a star for making me feel better about having these feelings xx

You are wrong.
There are reminders every day of the year about 9-11 but I think you'll agree they are subtle. On the anniversary date, it is very appropriate to have a lot of info and TV programs on. Also there are a lot of ceremonies and services for the victims, which are also in order.
We can not let the issue die. Did we let Pearl Harbor die? We must not forget what happenned and the lessons to be learned from the events. We must continue the fight against our enemies, to guarantee our freedoms. That takes a lot of blood and sacrifice. Remebering 9-11 is a good thing, it helps keep America strong.
One thing I recall vividly about that day, besides the horror and all the bad/evil events of the day, is how people of all backgrounds in this country just worked together. They forgot about their petty and superficial differences. Wouldn't it be great for that to be the way things are every day?
I suppose that if you want to "let the day go down in the history books, and then forget it already for Pete's sake already, you might also want to tell the victims and the victims relatives to get over it. I don't think that goes over very well at all.
Lastly, the nice thing about living in America and being an American is that you can simply chose to ignore all the reminders, and events comemorating the day. I'll stand up for your right to do so, and I will defend your right to state your opinion, even though I disagree with it.
In any case I hope you have a good day and maybe, just maybe, say a little prayer, (if you have a belief in that), for those who were affected by the events, for the world, and for the pursuit of peace.

Well, it depends. I feel very affected by 9/11 ( I was in DC at the time) so it helps for me personally to go back to that place and morn the losses. It was the most horrific day in American history, and although i am an idealist in certain ways, I need to see those cold, hard facts and images to remind me that something WENT wrong. There was a reason we got attacked. Not a logical one by any means, but there was one. Clash of civilization? Partly, yes.
It does hurt and everytime I see something about it on tv I cry. But, again, we need to make sure everyone is AWARE of the implications. Which most Americans tend to ignore. (and give me thumbs down for on yahoo answers!! bring it on!)
Peace.

Many people don't believe that attacking defenseless (but oil-rich) small third-world countries in the middle east has anything to do with 9/11.
If you look at it that way, 9/11 becomes a horrific failure of NORAD and then all of the investigations and cleanup afterwards.
We need to remember, and to do much, much better in the future. Otherwise, we'll be mourning the loss of more people, maybe some of them close to you.

I will never get sick of hearing, seeing or remembering 9/11. Just think about it. What about if something like that would of happened to one of your loved one. Wouldn't you remember that person on this date. Loosing a loved one is loosing half of your heart it never heals that easy or that fast. So please don't make these comments like this cause you could be hurting alot of people. I'm sorry for being so sincere my friend but, you ask me a question and I will answer it the way it should be answered. I consider myself a very honest person also. I feel alot for those people who lost their family on that horrible day and I'm with them 100%.

So you are sick of hearing seeing and remembering 9/11? Did you personally lose a loved one? I take it from your asking this question that you didn't or you would want to take a moment and remember those who lost their lives in a cowardly attack! I didn't lose anyone - I live in the UK but I will never forget today and what it means, as I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer at the same time the aeroplanes hit the twin towers. I am lucky to be alive and will always want to remember that others elsewhere in the world lost theirs needlessly!
