Delay/Difference in Menstruation:
A delayed or missed menstruation is the most common pregnancy symptom leading a woman to test for pregnancy. When you become pregnant, your next period should be missed. Many women can bleed while they are pregnant, but typically the bleeding will be shorter or lighter than a normal period.
Other Explanations: Excessive weight gain/loss, fatigue, hormonal problems, tension, stress, ceasing to take the birth control pill, or breast-feeding

I guess I am one of those women. At the onset of mensus, I was never regular. I would skip 3-4 months; go for 4-6 months everyday! I didn't have any fibroids, but there was something definitely not stable.
I was placed on a low dose estrogen to regulate for about 10 years. I came off on my own and basically returned to irregular mensus, was told I'd probably never conceive. But wait!! April 20, 1985 Hubby and I played hooky from work and let it all hang out. Almost three months later, thinking I was having gastric problems, was diagnosed with our first child. I was 33. It was the most joyous day in my life.
These are some reasons that might delay mensus:
Stress
New cycle , that is the irregularity experienced by some young girls at the onset of the periods. Their cycle can be irregular for months or years whilst it is establishing itself.
Dietary problems , eg anorexia, bulimia or simply poor diet
Too much exercise
Drugs - prescription and recreational
Break in routine
Thoughts and emotions
Sexual activity - especially when it is a new occurrence
Anxiety about pregnancy
Illness or physiological imbalance eg thyroid conditions
Irregularity also falls into 2 categories:
Long Term Irregularity
Long term irregularity can be anything from a cycle that varies in length from month to month to the experience of various abnormal symptoms, for example, excessive bleeding, no cycle for months at a time, very painful periods or ovulation.
To be on the safe side if your are experiencing prolonged bleeding or very painful symptoms it is wise to consult a doctor to find out what is going on.

Stress caused the same to happen with my wife. She missed her period for 3 months and we were worried, as we didn't intend to have children at the time. But keep a level head about yourself, and have a doctors appointment scheduled to confirm pregnant or not, it would ease some of the additional stress of not knowing.

If the girl is really skinny, or exercising too much she can loose her period. If your body fat percentage falls below a certain level, you stop having your period. Stress can also cause you to loose your period. It could also be something more medically serious. She should probably see a doctor.

Buy a pregnacy test... if by some miracle she is not pregnant then get to a doctor ASAP. SOmething is wrong. Stress would not cause a woman to lose her period for that long. If anythign it would shorten or lengthen her period.

Stress has a big impact on women and their cycle. There are also health reasons-maybe a cyst or a disorder? It's worth checking out , even just for peace of mind!
Good luck!

Assuming she isn't pregnant many things can cause a hormone imbalance and prevent menstruation. Some of the more serious ones include certain cancers, low thyroid function, etc.

Chances are your pregnant. However, make an appointment with you gynecologist just to get checked out. It could be a number of things, things that you'll want to get taken care of right away.

Has she taken a pregnancy test? You don't mention if she has or not. If you guys are having unprotected sex, then that would deffinitly be my best bet, she's pregnant.
