I love discus and I have the money to set up a good habitat for them (75 gallon, good filter, planted, expensive lighting), but I do not want to spend more than $60 total for fish. I was thinking maybe either:
-6 Discus and around 10 cardinal tetras
-1 Oscar and a common pleco
-4-6 Silver Dollars
-6 Angel fish

I want discus the most, but I may not be able to afford them. How much would 6 tank bred discus cost? How much a piece?

With that amount of money, your course of action should be to buy 10 or 12 small discus and grow them out to breeding size. If you are really good at this, you will have some to sell as the numbers outgrow the tank size. Keep the best four fish (actually the best two pairs) .Absolutely NO Oscars with Discus EVER. Same thing for Angelfish. Silver Dollars would not be good tank mates either.
If you can locate and join a local aquarium society or club you will find a valuable source of information and good quality livestock.
By the way that you asked the question I'd guess that you don't have a tank running now. If this is true, your first purchases should be a couple of good books on aquaria, and on Discus. Discus have very specific requirements to do well.
Good luck,and enjoy your fish.

i've got had the comparable difficulty with a 36"X12" and that i paid £30 for the tank so i'm somewhat miffed. could no longer purchase a proper tank lid everywhere for under £30 and that i wasn't going to pay that variety of money for a lid - with easy installation brackets or in any different case. Solved the difficulty via determining to purchase an off shrink of UPVC from a community plastic guttering and drainpipe enterprise. I paid £10 for the lump and made a hood that sounds like a Mexican hat. this is in 3 products and the middle raised bit holds a 15watt easy that fee yet another £10. Does the job proper and this is plenty much less difficulty to bathe the tank with it coming aside in 3 sections. you shrink UPVC with a hacksaw and being what that's self tapping screws pass right now in. fairly ordinary to make, yet whilst each and every person interior the kinfolk has a DIY aptitude, enable them to do it for you. I had adequate spare plastic to make a poultry nesting field, so it worked out low in fee. think of of it as a Blue Peter venture :0)
