1.As you back out the door sift (very lightly) some flour or talcum powder on the floor; Someone will have to step in it to get in the room 2.Also as you back out the door, put a small throw rug up against the door, so when someone goes in the rug will move, as they leave they will just think they messed up the rug with the door opening and lay it straight.
3. Lay a bobby pin up against the door on the outside, so that it falls and it is less noticeable than a toothpick. They may even see the bobby pin and pick it up.
4. Put a light coating of oil, or talcum powder on the door knob then see if it has been smeared.
5. Lastly if it is someone who lives in your apt or flat, take a day off work and be very quiet in your place, after letting it be known you are leaving for work. Hope one of these helps.

Hi Light,...I am sure you have a PC in your room otherwise you won't be looking at this answer! If you don't have a web cam perhaps you can borrow one. Hook it up and let it run via messenger, skype, etc ..any medium that could transmit the image to your nearest friend's PC/Web cam or at the neighbouring Internet cafe and burn it into a CD or thumb drive. If it's a laptop, turn down the top & mount the webcam elsewhere less suspicious. ie. Throw your towel or used clothes around it. Face it towards the door and leave some light on ....if you need more evidence, just entice him/her with a visible purse filled with a few notes but make sure that you have recorded the serials nos. If he/she decided to take it or even your computer, he/she will be recorded as well...! What do you think? More foolproof than hairs, powder or water? Remember, you can only catch the thief once! He/she will never return again!........Good.... nite... ..007!

With no offense at all have you ever heard the Steven Wright bit about coming home and thinking that someone had been there; moved everything around; then put it back exactly where it was to begin with?
Without knowing any reason for any paranoia or security issues, why not Lock the room when you exit?
Tape a piece of NON shiny "Scotch" tape to the bottom of the door and the door molding. I've seen "alerts" done by using thread or a length of a piece of hair. Fold up a piece of paper and wedge it at the top of the door. Get a Pit Bull. Put vaseline on the door knob, or chalk dust.
Again; with no disrespect determine the WHY of anyone wanting access to YOUR ROOM. If in fact your a minor; living in your Parents house; then you might want to address the issue face to face. I GET IT with a code of respect, but in that case it's THEIR room;;; you only occupy it.

Place a hair among your clothes and a pencil in your papers, and memorize their exact position. If you come back and they have been moved, someone has been snooping.
Put pieces of paper under your sheets in specific areas, so you can tell if someones been in or on your bed.
Put something behind your door so if it's opened it will be moved when you go to check.
Place a recorder in your room, and turn it on whenever you leave. Then play back the tape and listen for someone.
Check any dusty areas in your room for fingerprints.
Keep an organized closet; while this will generally provide more room for an attacker to hide, you will easily notice anything disturbed.

A trick I saw in a movie was put a piece of tape on the outside of your door. So, when the door is opened, the tape tears. Of course that could be just someone opening and closing your door too. Not necessarily going in. You may want to place certain things in your room, take a picture w/your phone camera and then compare at the end of the day. Good luck in finding out!

Wrap a long strand of hair around the doorknob in a way that you can tell if it's been moved. Same goes for common things in your room or things you want to mo niter. Just check to see if the hair is still there when you return. Good luck!

My mother used to set a glass of water on the floor close to the door as she was leaving. Anyone going into the room would knock it over when they opened the door causing the carpet to get wet.

You could put something (like a piece of toothpick) in the door crack on the hinge side so, if someone opens the door it will fall out. Before you enter your room, see if it is still in place. It might not tell you if someone has entered your room but it will let you know someone opened the door. ...Good Luck...

as you close the door just hold a small piece of card or something similar between the door and the frame, so as you shut the door the card is wedged in place...
when you return the card should be where you put it. if its on the floor you know someones been in there.....
don't put it where anyone can see it though.....

Close the door on a strand of hair, so it's stuck there. If anyone opens the door the hair will fall out.
