He is going to be your baby not theirs. My parents were not to fond of my last babies name. Lauren Kelly, but I think it's beautiful. And that is all that all that really matters. So welcome to the world Richard Desmond. I think his name sounds strong and that of a leader. Just remember, no matter what you name him, he is your baby.

While I do not personally care for the name, it is noone's decision but yours and your husband's as to what the child is named-not even the grandparents. I only voice my opinion on the name because you asked;)
The grandparents had the chance to name their children, and now you have the chance to name yours. Unless you specifically asked their opinion, they should not have offered it.
It does not suit my personal taste, but I see nothing wrong with it-in fact, it is actually quite nice considering the current trend to use obnoxious spellings and/or ridiculous names.
Congratulations, and I hope Richard Desmond lives a long and happy life! His grandmothers will love him no matter his name. Stand up for yourself, because this is probably the least of your worries as far as the grandmothers butting in.

My mother and Mother-in-law, neither liked the names we picked for our sons (3). Trust me , they get over it and months down the road they won't remember either because the thought of changing little Richard Desmond in any way just wouldn't seem right.

Don't listen to the grandparents!
It is your baby not theirs.
I would say if you want to call him Desmond then name him Desmond Richard.
When your child gets a little older he may be confussed at why he is called his middle name and not his first name.

I find not much wrong with the name you've chosen. I do, however, have a problem with wierd names like Gunner ( yes, someone I know REALLY named their son this) or Janzata ( again, someone I know REALLY gave their kid this name ).
And those are boys names--don't get me started on the weird girl names out there!

Names are so personal and ultimately, the choice is yours! If you chose names that will appease everyone else, you wouldn't be happy with them! So name your baby what you want and when your parents meet Richard Desond, they will love him just the same!
Good luck to you!

My in-laws didn't like the name we chose for our second born son (Shaun Forsythe) because they "know too many people already named Shaun." The name was very important to my husband (after a dear friend of his who passed away) and so we just ignored the comments :)
*of course they LOVED our first-born son's name...we named him after my FIL lol

Is there reasoning as to WHY they don't like it? Or would they just prefer something else?
Alot of people around me didn't like my son's name at first...his name is Jelani....but it means MIGHTY ONE is Swahili and when he was born, they all took one look at him and knew the name was right :)
Bottom line is YOU have to be happy with the name, not everyone else. It is YOUR child and your time to shine so do what you want to do :) They had their time, now it is your turn.
