Methods.
Sociologist may have difficulty finding appropriate methods in finding people living in poverty. While it may be an easy task to measure the number of people who are on government assistance or the people who made less than lower "middle class" the previous year. But what about the many people living in poverty who are unaccounted for? Such as the homeless. How can you measure some one when you have basically no recent or relarive records on them?

One problem that sociologists might face when attempting to measure the number of people who live in poverty is trying to "guesstimate" the number of them who are attempting to earn a living as poets.

Getting people to admit that they fall into the guidelines for what the government says is "poor." It's embarrassing to be poor -- people aren't proud of it -- so conducting a survey that asks people whether they are living in poverty will likely lead to skewed results: showing fewer people than is actually accurate.

in measuring the number of people in poverty, one must understand what constitutes poverty? Owning a nice house car and the like, but only making enough to get by, counts as poverty.
one must also look at the level of poverty as compared to what? causes, effects, and so on...... not an easy task.
is it self induced?, lack of education? sicknesses? death of the bread winner? divorce? alot of factors to factor in
