Turn off the a/c....lol. Turbo (a small turbo) headers give you more than you realize. how much money are we spending...not much get a junk yard 350 or other small v8 throw cheap set of headers on it.Buy or make your own chevy v8 mounting brackets "engine mounts". i suggest new plugs, distributer, plug wires, rotor bug, and cap. bolt it to a th350 or th400 or if your lucky find a older style 4l60 that doesn't need a pcm to run it...i love spending other peoples money. or find a standard theirs alot of those to that bolt right up...on the auto matics dont forget to get the right torque converter lol. gl on the drive shaft though that wont be cheap. unless you find one that fits..other wise its custom of course.

Find an engine that will fit in - 3.8 might take some fitting, 4.3 (stock engine) should fit right in with different motor mounts, 350 with a little work - instead of sinking too much into it. You might be able to get the engine and trans from a wrecked one for a little over a grand, but you'll notice the difference.

With your engine, I wouldn't turbocharge it if it's high mileage or if you want to keep it for any amount of time (turbo will wear it out), but simple things - reducing weight, replacing the airbox, if it has one, with a cone filter, cleaning the plugs (don't replace them with anything besides AC plugs), inflating the tires to the proper pressure - all work pretty well. If you're looking to race it, the engine swap is about the only way to go for any noticeable difference, but if you plan on doing it in the future the turbo might be the best for right now.

Not a whole lot you can do to a 2.2. High Flow intake, and Exhaust is about the best modifications.
