Yes, I know, I know there are some obvious reasons as to why you'd state your sexuality and make it public knowledge. But people today make such a big deal out of such a little thing... you know what I'm saying? It's like people have nothing better to do than talk about than sexuality.

We live in a culture obsessed with sex. Sex dominates all forms of media, including magazines, newspapers, TV, films and of course the Internet.
Sex is even used to sell products that have nothing to do with it [ David Beckham shirtless advertising a razorblade springs to mind, lord knows why ;) ].
This obsession with sex leads to an obsession with sexuality and all forms of sexual behavior. Even those who believe sexual behavior that deviates from the norm is "wrong" are still obsessed with it, hence all the protests...
The reason for this is because sex is such an important part of our lives. It is after all, how we survive in the first place.

EDIT: Actually, I think I agree with loblg88's answer more... ;)

I don't understand why it's such a big deal for people to know what you do under the sheets.

I think sexuality shouldn't be an issue. I mean, it's not like I want to have sex with everyone I meet. Why do some people judge another person according to sexuality of all things?

Because sexuality is a big deal. People just make a big deal about a persons orientation.

Because so many people *still* think it's chosen. That doesn't bear close scrutiny, but that's the bottom line. Because they think you choose it, they worry that (gasp!) their family and friends may also choose it! Ugh. It's annoying that it takes up so much of the oxygen, but until the issue is examined often enough, it will continue to be a hot topic.

Most people don't. It is a small minority on both sides making all the noise. Bigots on one side, paranoids on the other.

duh, dont you know that a person's sexuality is more important then things like poverty, famine, disease, child abuse, corruption, greed and all the above? Thats why fundy christians are so much in an uproar about it, cuz they know the true evil out there is gay people, not helpless people in the world.

Yeah, I don't get it either. What you use to stick it in and what you stick in it, is not who you are as a person.

If that was the case our genitals would be on our foreheads.

I know, they really shouldn't. They should mind their business.
But, what can you do? People are people. and people are going to be nosy and pry into everyones business.
