I'm making an altered book project for my ceramics class. My friend told me my theme should be my music. I write my own music and i play guitar and piano. But im stumped for ideas...i want to use pics and extra guitar strings.
I dont know what to do.
My teacher complains to everyone how she doesnt want a scrapbook.
which is technically what this is.
But anyways, i really want an artistic look to this.. i just dont have any ideas.
Maybe i should change my theme to like, zodiacs or gardens..something easier.

It sounds like she wants you to do sculpture, not just a scrapbook.

How about this: Have an open book on a stand or however your teacher has showed you how to do it. Cover the open pages with sheet music of your songs so that it looks like the whole book is your songs. Attach a tangle of guitar strings to look like they sprang out when the book was opened. Add a pick as a bookmark.

There are tons of ideas for making an altered book with a musical theme. First, you could start with an old music book or song book or a book about music. You could even cut the entire book in the shape of a guitar. It's easier to do than you might think. You would need good box cutters. Be sure to leave some of the spine intact so it doesn't fall apart.

You can decorate with photocopies of your music. You can use cut up guitar strings to bind blocks of pages together. You can drill holes in the book and wind guitar strings through the holes. Dangle pics here and there. Glue pics here and there. Cut a big square or rectangular hole through many pages of the inside of the book so you fcreae a shadow box effect. Glue your pics inside the hole. Decorate around the hole. Use pictures of yourself playing the guitar throughout the book. Collage pictures for an artistic effect. The link below gives plenty of instructions for making an altered book. I'd love to see a picture of your finished product.

Take one of your pieces of music and photocopy it. Make a few copies so you can practice this technique. With the photocopied sheet music ( or maybe the lyrics to one of your pieces ) follow these instructions for antiquing the paper:

Once it is antiqued, tear the sheet into smaller pieces and use a flame to singe the edges of the paper. Glue these augmented pieces into your altered book with picks on the pages, too. I am at a loss for how to use the guitar strings.
Unless you maybe wrapped a couple of them vertically around the front cover of the book. Assuming it is a hardback.
