Today we were using graphing calculators, and when we were turning them off, I didn't do mine correctly. I Was pressing these buttons trying to get it to work, then I asked the teacher for help and she yelled at me, because I ended up changing the settings. She told me to stay after class, then she told me I had to serve a detention - all for changing the settings on a calculator!! It blew my mind!! I'm an okay student, I get 80s in my AP courses (I'm only taking AP) and I get a detention!!!!!!
What's your take?

She said "Now that the settings are changed, I have to waste my time fixing it!"

Well she has the Detention Slips. She can decide what she does with them. Teachers have never been fair so just cut the teacher some slack you will miss detention someday and wished you got more out of it.

We're only hearing one side of the story here..... If you sassed the teacher by telling her to chill.. THAT is what probably got you the detention....

If not, go to the principal and fight it out with them...

The teacher has overreacted. You are only human. You should talk to the administrator if you are having any displeasure of any teacher, cos you are a student and have the right to fight for accusations.

are u kidding?!
whats wrong with ur teacher?
if i was u,...i would have suggested that she get some professional help with her mental problem and walked out,...then i would have served whatever i got because then i WOULD have deserved it.(im in AP too, and some of these teachers are ridiculous!!)

But def. tell ur parents at least.let THEM handle the psycho!!

I think your teacher was out of line. I'd talk to your parents if I were you and see why your teacher treated you like that. (BTW, I'm in my 40s, not a kid.)

i say she shouldn't have gave you detention. she should have been doing her job in the first place and showed you how to work it.
