As much as I oppose the Iraq fiasco, up to now I have supported the decision to continue funding it, despite Bush's behavior--soley because of the potential hardship a cutoff of funds minght impose on our troops.

But this HAS to be stopped. It's time to cut the funds. If we don't, more of our men and women in uniform are going to die than if we force the issue.

That's a tough call--but its time to stop allowing Bush to use American soldiers as hostages to keep his damned war going.

It's nice to see someone finally come to the same conclusion I did years ago, better late than never. Obviously from the turnout here there are many that still seem to think "we" have this obligation to police the world and BTW it only cost a half a Trillion dollars for nothing but keeping big oil in business. So lets stop wasting your great grand kids money and stop funding this nightmare!

Most of these respondents would tear up the constitution for a little warm cozy feeling. (warmongers)

It isn't a vote to cut off funds. It is a failure to vote for funding. According to the Constitution all tax legislation must originate in the House of Representatives and all spending authorizations must come from the Senate. It isn't exactly that clear cut but it is pretty close and adequate for this question. It is essentially what happened when Vietnam fell. Our military was out and the Vietnamese military was doing the job. Then, as now, a Democrat controlled Senate did not renew the spending bill that would have continued to supply the South Vietnamese military. The country fell very shortly thereafter.

I think the point is we can't just leave ... whats done is done, and now we have to have a plan for fortifying the region

the fact that this mess is due to manipulation, poor planning, and outright ideology is regardless at this point

we now have a moral obligation to protect the Iraqis from a genocide that could eventually come back to bite us years down the road ... we will have soldiers in Iraq for a long, long time ... even after the war has ended

If cutting funds was the proper thing to do, congress would have already done so. Iraq can't be left in a power void. We have to stay there until the country can unify.
That is going to take a very long time. The Iraqi people have never been unified. They have no experience at it.

No I do not think cutting funds is the right thing to do.

Why? I would love to see the US troops back home, so why not cut the funding?

Because if we pull out before Iraq is prepared for self rule, the result will be genocide, and the public will clamor for us to get troops back there to prevent the unnecessary death.

Let the troops finish the job.

wow buddy, no offense but i think your an idiot, incredibly selfish too, many may say that your not selfish, you want to bring home the troops and protect them, however, are other lives not as important as america's soldiers lives, once again racism, sexism and other forms of prejudice take place, something i believe has been forgotten in many of our lives, ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL. What would happen to the lives of those who live in Iraq if we pulled out now, think about it. Extreme chaos and civil war would break out, sure that is going on already to a certain extent, but think of all the innocent people without our protection would just be SLAUGHTERED, and many of us continue to insist that we pull out, I for one would not be proud to be an American if we pulled out of Iraq now, allowing countless deaths that we could of prevented, remember, ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL!

The Democrats caved in F.I.S.A.'s revision so why would they commit political suicide?

Their approval is lower than the president.

nice try lefty hack. the war on terrorism in general comparitively "only" uses 3.5% of our GNP. WW2 was 45% and vietnam 10%. really it ain't much money to prevent those rats from coming to the US.

thanks for the hate!
