we have two crypmurtle trees that are growing by our front porch and they are above our roof would like to cut down to the rail is this possible with out killing the trees?

I always trim the tops off. Do it in January or early February. You can also trim the trunks down to three or five for a more traditional look.

The best time to trim crape myrtles is late fall or winter, even early spring is ok.

No you will not kill them...They are actually drought tolerant once established.

Be sure to prune off the old seed head to extend the blooming season.

There is no problem with doing that. They do the same thing on the crepe myrtles on the sides of the Interstates in Texas every few years.

Yes,but wait until they are finished blooming. Winter is the best time to do any pruning because they are dormant. Byee
