They want us to lose, just so one of their fake leaders can get into office. They won't admit it, but that's how they feel.

Excuse me. Exactly where does Petraeus say we are winning the war? Gaining some measure of stability is a far cry from winning the war.

Unless we can change the mindsets of all the Iraqi people we are fighting a war that cannot be won.
We can increase forces, kill more people, lose more soldiers.
But we cannot change the traditions of thousands of years. Before Saddam Hussein, Iraq was a hotbed of internal conflicts. His harsh regime, although deplorable, kept the squabbling factions in check.
We can fight, but we cannot force the Iraqi government to actually govern and take the steps to be independent. Diplomatic failure leads to failure in general.

General Petreaus should never have been put in that position. He is a military man. He takes orders. He does what his commanding officer tells him to do. it is not his job to go before congress & plead a case for war that his commander-in -chief should have been doing. his commander-in-chief doesn't have the guts to face congress just as he didn't have the guts to go to Nam. bush is in favor of war as long as somebody else is fighting it.

Like telling the Senate today that he didn't know if all the lives and treasure lost in Iraq was making America safer? That question was asked by Republican Senator Warner.

Administrative note: anytime someone writes "Fact!" after a controversial statement without sourcing or other evidence, it almost certainly isn't a fact. You may resume your reading.

The very least you could do is spell his name correctly. As for being put in my place, I've heard the same ol' rhetoric for years now. Remember "Mission Accomplished" and the "end of major combat operations in Iraq"?

And the best part of it, the general is not running for political office. he has nothing to gain or lose based on what the report says.
