Oh, my! How little we know of the homeless! Many of them have advanced degrees; a disproportinate percentage of them served in the military. So, they have "served society"! That is why so many of them are homeless; they served society, but society repaid them in bunk!
True, some of them are there because they are lazy; some are there because of sicknesses of some sort, sometimes terminal. These people would be of no use in the military. You need strong, healthy, energetic people who can think on their feet. (INCOMING!)
Better idea: round up all the Liberals and make them do something useful!

In sociology when conducting experiments, doing surveys, and the like, there is something that has to be taken into consideration and that is Ethics. It would be unethical to take people in certain cohorts and make them go to war. Someone against homosexuality may come with the same suggestion and say, "Why not round up a bunch of gay men and send them off to fight in war. That way they will be surrounded by other men. Which is something they would probably like. And there will be no wives back at home crying over there husbands.
Now here's a thought since I believe that putting people in certain cohorts in battle without there permission just because they fit a group is unethical. How does making young men enlist in the military rather if they like it or not because of a cohort sound?

How about rounding up middle class and upper class people and putting them in the military? They have obviously benefitted from living in the country. To put a homeles person in the military for being homeless is far less justified. Not only have they not benefitted from living in the country, you are now forcing them to repay a debt that they do not owe. Make those that have benefitted pay the debt. This is, of course aside from the practical problems of homeless people not typically being military material. Addiction, mental illness, and poor health are found at higher rates among the homeless than among the general population.

I thought many of the homeless population were veterans- you know people who had already defended this country so we could be free. Visit a V.A. sometimes! You might learn something about some of the homeless and why some, not all have mental disorders. Check out the underpasses close to V.A. Hospitals! Instead of degrading all homeless- you may want to stop and thank some for fighting for the freedom you have today!

Hmm, i've never thought of that before. But that would be a good thing.
Except, that most governments, want something they can depend on to defend for their country.
Who knows, one of the homeless people could all of a sudden start shooting their own soliders..
But, i say with much training, and education, not a bad idea.
Then again, not all homeless people would want to join the military, even if it means food,shelter,clothing,socialization..So they might not even try to make an effort in that career.
[education is needed in the military] and i believe more educated is need in the military than the required right now.
Take care,
xx

Well, no. Because homeless people already have too many problems to deal with, and having people despise them and shoot at them doesn't help things. If you were homeless, would you like to be shoved into the military, even if you were fed, clothed, and paid? Because I wouldn't want to risk my life. It would be like being a slave, wouldn't it?

its not a win win.
you say finally serve society? as compared to what? our self absorbed ideas? alot of the homeless are there through no "oversight, or lack of ethics" on their part. It's not easy living paycheck to paycheck, and get sick and still try to pay everything, family rent.... Maybe if some of us spent some time with some of these "lack of society servers" we would change our view.. I think it is called "Until you walk a mile in my shoes." hope one day, your view of these less fortunate will change... after all, Christ died for them just as he did for you

Most homeless people aren't very strong... lack discipline... are often a little insane... and their ego/wills are more likely to shatter rather than grow stronger under the brutal regimentation of a military authority.
...you want to give these people GUNS and entrust them with the safety of the country???
