Hi, ya'll! To all my herbalists, homeopathic gurus, massage therapists, acupuncturists, or just experienced...ya know who you are! My grandmother has tried all the cholestoral medications you've seen on commercials, to have to stop due to severe leg pain. She is 5ft 1inch, 117lbs, 65 years of age, walks every morning, no other ailments besides moderate rheumatoid flare ups every now and again....any regiment you all can offer? Her PCP is researching options, she's been on 5 different meds that all cause leg pain/swelling that encourages her to stop! HELP! It's grandma! Thanks all!

SoulDoctor, above and beyond! She can't eat any of those things you mentioned due to Acid Reflux. We tried fish oil, it made her sick to her stomach, any particular mg? She isn't a real carnivore, either, dabble in a little chicken, adores fish, won't eat salmon, though. Keep it coming, ya'll, this is great stuf!

Normally, I'd say lose weight, but your grandmother is fine. A low cholesterol diet helps, but not for the genetic component. If she is inclined toward becoming a vegetarian, encourage her, except for some fish such as salmon. Be sure she gets enough calcium to prevent osteoporosis. Does her arthritis prevent her from moderate exercise? That would help, too.
I don't know of any homeopathic medication claimed to reduce cholesterol that has withstood scientific investigation. Niacin may work in high dosages, but most people get flushing that is very uncomfortable.

You can get her the purest source of Lecithin and a can of Multi fiber blend for cholesterol and Salmon Oil Plus for rheumatoid with out the upset stomach
Lecithin is a crucially important nutrient found in every cell
in the body, especially as a major building block of cell
membranes.
Due to its unique chemistry, lecithin has natural
emulsification properties, meaning it can disperse lipids (fats
or oils) in water. In the body, these lipid-dispersing capabilities
contribute to a host of critical biological functions.
In the bloodstream, which is mostly water, lecithin
contributes lipotropic factors which help stabilize blood lipids
and keep them evenly dispersed in the blood. It is these
“emulsifying” lipotropic capabilities that have earned lecithin
the reputation as an “anti-cholesterol” nutrient.
Elevated blood cholesterol is a major challenge to long-term
heart health. Recent studies have shown that water-soluble
dietary fibers, commonly found in beans and oat bran, can help reduce blood cholesterol levels. Scientists think the soluble fibers may bind dietary and bile acid cholesterol in the
gastrointestinal (GI) tract, thus preventing cholesterol from
being absorbed into the bloodstream.
The multi fiber blend offer a unique mixture of both soluble and insoluble fibers derived from a variety of whole-food sources supplying complete fiber, just as nature intended.
For the Rheumatoid you can use Omega 111 Salmon Oil Plus. It provides you with all 8 omega 111 Starting with alpha linolenic acid (ALA) and ending at docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) there are a total of eight omega-3 fatty acids involved in human nutrition.
Omega-3 fatty acids widely influence defensive and
inflammatory responses throughout the body. For this reason,
they may affect tissues as diverse as blood vessels, immune
cells, skin, lungs, joints, kidneys, pancreas, and blood cells.
By preventing overproduction of inflammatory substances,
omega-3 fatty acids may lessen arthritis, menstrual pain,
psoriasis, inflamed bowel, and other conditions. Moreover,
they may lessen the dosages of prescribed medications required to treat these conditions.
About 165 million people worldwide have rheumatoid
arthritis. Peer-reviewed scientific studies conducted around the world have demonstrated the benefits of omega-3-rich fish oil supplements in alleviating some of the tender joints and morning stiffness that make arthritis so painful and
debilitating.4,5 Some people taking fish oil supplements
have even been able to discontinue the use of nonsteroidal
anti-inflammatory drugs without experiencing flare-ups.6

There are no homeopathic remedies worth a damn but you could try a nutritional supplement - niacin. I know a few people who have had very good results in lowering cholesterol with niacin. It has also been shown to decrease mortality.
One bad thing is it can cause some extreme short term flushing but sometimes, taking aspirin with it can help.

Don’t focus on your weaknesses, spotlight your best bits. Small waist? Belt it in. Stunning bust? Lower the neckline. Well toned butt? Rock tight jeans. Attractive legs? Show ‘em off. It’s really that simple.
