What is up with all the USC fans saying that the title was shared, with them, when LSU won it? I only saw and heard about 1 trophy and 1 team acknowledged. Can someone please explain?

Technically there are two national championships awarded in Division 1-A. The first one goes the winner of the USA Today Coaches Poll, the other to the winner of the AP Top 25 Poll.
In 2003, both polls were a part of the BCS formula to determine who played for the national championship. Even though USC was ranked #2 in both polls while LSU was #3, LSU ended up ranking higher in the BCS standings because of the computer polls, and thus played against Oklahoma in the title game.
LSU won that game, and were awarded the ADT National Championship, as the coaches are required to vote the winner of the BCS title game as #1 in the USA Today poll. However, the sportswriters are not bound by that agreement and most felt that USC should have been in the title game. Therefore after its win over Michigan in the Rose Bowl, USC was voted #1 in the AP Top 25 poll and thus awarded the AP National Championship.
This split championship is exactly what the BCS was designed to prevent. And as a result, the AP is no longer a part of the BCS equation though it continues to award a national championship each year.

The 2003 BCS National Championship game was won by LSU, thus they are acknowledged as the BCS Champion. However, the AP poll put LSU at #2 with USC at #1 and it has been recognized as a shared National Title.

To make it simple, this is what happened.
USC was ranked #1 in the AP and coaches poll but #3 in the BCS. So...they were left out of the title game. LSU won the BCS National Championship. But USC won the AP National Championship. And situations like that is why the BCS is flawed.

I belive LSU beat oklahoma fair and square for the champion title. The reason USC claimes they shared the title is because the Harris Poll that helps rank the top twenty five teams voted USC because one of the three major polls voted USC the # 1 team in the nation ( even though they never particapated in the Bcs champ game) the championship is considered shared. Only when all three top polls votes on the same BCS champion will the champion be undisputed.

It's just USC fans trying to take another team's glory because they were ranked number 1 by the AP Polls and felt they should have been in the title game. Instead LSU ranked #2 by the AP Poll but #1 on the BCS Poll played Oklahoma ranked #3 in the AP Poll but #2 in the BCS Poll. Real college football fans know that LSU are the 03 Champs though.

LSU won but the crybabies from USC got their voters for the USA Today poll to still vote for them, causing LSU to win the AP title, but USC to win the other title

regardless of the BCS in place, the nationwide championship is basically a delusion. whilst there are extra desirable than 2 communities with the final possible checklist enjoying comparable power of schedule, the device breaks down. whilst the device breaks down, polls exterior the BCS formulation would make certain a various "champion" for the year, and that's what got here approximately with LSU and USC in '03.

I could point out that 4 polls in 2004 say that USC shared that one too ;) I bet they DON'T want to discuss that.. but they'll jump on getting voted ahead of someone else who actually participated in the championship game.. you can't win the game if you aren't IN the game.. claiming that title shows 0 class lol.. we (Auburn) don't claim 2004.. we're not happy about what went down.. but we don't claim it
