Programmes like Hells Kitchen highlight the processes involved in slaughtering and preparing meat for the dinner table. We are so far removed from the actual preparation of meat in this day and age (and much of this has only occured in the last century or so with the introduction of pre-packaged meat in supermarkets), that people are shocked by cute Bambi dying.

In turn, as we only normally now see animals in a cute sense (in the farm or zoo), some people think it is morally wrong to kill one for food. I know people who, although they are meat eaters, disagree with the killing of animals and would never kill an animal themselves. One word springs to mind- hypocritical!

I have no qualms with vegetarians or vegans who stick by their guns and do not eat meat. What does annoy me though, is those who assume they hold the moral high ground and preach to us omnivores as if we are the baddies! All I can say to those people is: 100,000 years of human history can't be wrong!

Any thoughts?

I love meat and will continue to eat meat. I don't hunt but my husband dose and we fish.
I don't eat as much as I use to though but only because it has gotten more expensive and red meat is suppose to be bad for you. We mostly eat fish, chicken and wild game.

I'm a veggie because I simply don't agree with killing animals for food it isn't necessary we can live without doing this. I appreciate people think it's natural to kill animals for food but many things were considered natural in the dark ages which are now frowned upon. I cannot get away from the fact a life is a life, people have feelings, hopes and loved one's as I'm sure animals do allbeit in a limited way. I have nothing against meat eaters (my kids eat meat by choice) I just choose not to myself. I cannot stand people who say 'I;m a veggie but I eat Fish' pathetic!

I disagree with your response to them, which is 100,000 years of human histroy cannot be wrong... I think humans can and have been wrong about some things in history.

But I basically agree. I have seen alot of people and magazines simply saying it is wrong to eat animals... you'd think they'd care more about humans than animals.

I think this comes from the new mindset which claims that the minority must, in a sense, rule. Minority religions must be talked about respectfully, animals and environment and basically anything non-human must not be hurt, murderers must not be executed. Now I'm not saying I disagree with all of this... there is just this new mindset which seems to say that humans, particularly majorities, are bad and evil, and the earth is sacred, let's worship it...

Animals are animals. It's wrong to sadistically hurt them, but killing and eating them... come on, people. I read a vegetarian magazine that seemed to just say that if you eat meat, or dairy products, you're a cruel, evil person. I think it's perfectly good if they decide not to eat meat. But elevating animals as if they were gods... That I have a problem with. Good observations.

I do believe, quicker or later, we ought to all improve up. i do no longer think of whining is exceptionally perfect at any age, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that this is extra tolerable from a newborn who has no longer yet discovered that they might no longer continually have their way. i've got encountered little ones who've in no way heard the be conscious no, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, who're thoroughly out of hand while denied. Why, purely the different day, I watched a newborn knock his mothers purchase off of the counter, on the save wherein i chanced on myself, and around the floor! This replaced into all because of the fact he did no longer get what he'd requested for. After throwing reported merchandise around the floor, he flung himself on the floor and cried and screamed to the precise of his lungs. Now, i could desire to in no way see an person try this, yet there are some that i'm questioning in the event that they might no longer secretly behave as such interior the privateness of their own residing house.

They better not I love my steak!!

Some ways animals are killed are down right disgusting, I have recently heard of a place I can not remember the name where they eat dogs but before they eat them they dislocate their legs and put a jagged tin can over their mouths.

The animals then die in mortifying pain is meant to set the adrenalin going and this is supposed to make the meat taste nicer DISGUSTING, IMMORAL HORRENDOUS I am ashamed to be human when these attrocities happen.

I think that people are now realizing that we don't need to eat meat at all and we're all healthier for it. Gone are the days when families would eat meat once a week or so. Everyone who eats meat eats it daily and they are currently dying of obesity, colon cancer, breast cancer, diabetes and all the rest that are directly linked to eating meat and being overweight.

I recently watched a local beauty pageant for my Native American tribe (Navajo), in which the contestants must demonstrate their skills in what are called "traditional" skills, which includes butchering a sheep.

I myself was brought up to participate, even as a young child, in the sheep butchering. And let me tell you, none of that sheep goes to waste.

I believe that once you see your mother break a leg of mutton, you won't disrespect her.
