No, but everyone that pays attention already knew this.
Why else would we have started construction on permanent military bases right away?
10 years is the low estimate by the way, it will most likely be much longer.

Let's see, we have been in Germany and Japan with troops and US bases since World War II. We have been Korea since 1951 and the Korean War.
50 years is just no big deal for US bases overseas.
Now personally, I think we should place the entire middle east on a travel ban, both ways and get the people out of the US that are citizens of the middle east.
No business and no travel. That will certainly slow the terrorist organizations. If the can't get here they can't hurt us near as bad.

It is completely and totally naive for anyone to believe that we were going to be done in Iraq in a few years. It's even more naive to think that there was no reason to go into Iraq. That's pure liberal propaganda. If everyone would stop and really look at this situation for what it is, they'd realize that there's no debate to have here.
We are facing an enemy who will not stop until our very way of life is destroyed and eradicated from the face of the planet.
They are bent on getting their hands on nuclear and other WMDs and using them on Israel, America, Britain and any other country where the people refuse to acquiesce to the radical islamic ravings of their leaders.
We need to eliminate their ability to wage this war. Iraq is part of that. Afghanistan is part of that. Iran is part of that. Lebanon is part of that.
If you want to bury your head in the sand and pretend that this isn't the truth... sure, pull out of Iraq... pretend we are waging an 'illegal' war... but don't pretend you support the troops.
If you want to stabilize the region and reduce or eliminate the threat posed by these radical islamo-fascists, then we need to do what is needed... period.
It was pointed out that Japan is still occupied... how many of you would have voted to cut and run and let Japan win WWII?

If occupying Iraq for 10 or 20 years guarantees stability in the region, and in the long run provides additional safety for America, then I think it's a sound plan. Of course, you can't prove this at the outset, only time will tell.
Petraeus probably skirted the question for the obvious reason: the cost cannot be maintained well into the future if only the US provides security, and if the Iraqi political and military forces don't get in gear.

We never should have to begin with. Their way of life is so different than ours that we really have no right to try to reform something we know nothing about. Even worse none of the people Bush sent over there speak Arabic. Nada one. Just plain crazy.

We are STILL in Korea. Have been since about 1950.
We are still in Japan and have been since 1945.
We still have a presence in Germany and have had one since 1945 also.
Unless we loose, we will be in Iraq for more than 50 years if history repeats itself.
Would Would rather give up like all the GOOD Leftists want us to do?

I don't think a time limit is the smart thing to do. It tells the insurgents how long they have to hang on. Best to leave when the job is complete. The Iraqi government needs to continue to step up though.

i don't think we should occupy it any more than we have to, but it's definately smart to leave some measure of miltary force in the middle east in order to help maintain order in those places we're working on now and to provide assisstance when other governments ask for help and in case we have to take measures against another country such as Iran or Pakistan
