I right clicked with the mouse to change the background and suddenly the veiwable area changed. I don't know what I clicked on and haven't been able to fix it. I have tried system restore, graphics, and monitor settings. I've adjusted the resolution and refresh rate, helped but not a fix. Should I unhook the monitor and plug it back in? I just want my work screens to pop up in a normal size again.

I have stretched the screen in settings. It distorts the size shape of windows and doesn't stay stretched.

You did not state whether the monitor is a CRT or LCD.

If it is a LCD monitor, try setting your resolution to 1024 X 768.

Some LCD monitors (new style of flat screen) will show a smaller viewing area with a black border around it if the resolution is set below 1024 X 768.

If it is a CRT monitor (Old style - can have a flat or curved screen), you will have to adjust the screen size using the menu buttons on the monitor.

Also check in the Control Panel for your video card settings. Some video card drivers install a control panel icon.

If neither of these work, your video drivers may be corrupted an will have to be re-installed.

Good Luck.

sounds like once you probably did the chipset replace, it replaced the video driving force you have been utilizing. i'm assuming that the video card is integrated into the device, and not some thing you extra later. pass to the information superhighway website for the computing device's maker, and look of their acquire or Drivers area. locate the style of you laptop, and notice in the event that they have an as much as date video driving force there. as quickly as you get the perfect video driving force back on the computing device you need to get the completed reveal screen back in greater resolutions. Afterthought: attempt proper clicking on the laptop, choosing residences from the menu, and going into the "Settings" tab of the residences homestead windows. click on the stepped forward button. What you're becoming attainable under stepped forward will variety via the video driving force you're utilizing. yet some could have an determination which you will verify/uncheck that determines whether the photograph fills the entire reveal screen or no longer. because it varies for all the 1000's of video clips enjoying cards on the marketplace, i can't "step via step" you to the place that determination could be. yet once you hunt around in there you may locate it...solid success.

Most monitors have several adjustments. Like shrink and expand both up and down and sideways. I bet somehow these controls got out of whack. You should be able to get to these controls at the same place you found the refresh rate.
